Police officers have carried out a number of raids in Paris - one on the villa Sarkozy shares with his wife Carla Bruni and another on the law offices of the former president's attorneys.

­The raids are reportedly linked to the corrupt campaign scandal in the Lilian Bettencourt case.

Bettencourt, the heiress to a multimillion dollar L'Oreal fortune, is accused of donating far more than permitted to Sarkozy's 2007 presidential campaign. While in office, Nikolas Sarkozy was immune from prosecution, but that immunity expired on June 16th. His former budget minister Eric Woerth has already been charged with corruption.

Many reports suggest this is just one of the many case Sarkozy can be investigated for, now that he is no longer the President.
