Felonious Parenting - Mom/Teacher Jailed for Falsification – Putting Her Kids In Better School

An Ohio mother's attempt to provide her daughters with a better education has landed her behind bars.

Kelley Williams-Bolar was convicted of lying about her residency to get her daughters into a better school district.

"It's overwhelming. I'm exhausted," she said. "I did this for them, so there it is. I did this for them."

Williams-Bolar decided four years ago to send her daughters to a highly ranked school in neighboring Copley-Fairlawn School District.

But it wasn't her Akron district of residence, so her children were ineligible to attend school there, even though her father lived within the district's boundaries.

The school district accused Williams-Bolar of lying about her address, falsifying records and, when confronted, having her father file false court papers to get around the system.

Williams-Bolar said she did it to keep her children safe and that she lived part-time with her dad.

"When my home got broken into, I felt it was my duty to do something else," Williams-Bolar said.

While her children are no longer attending schools in the Copley-Fairlawn District, school officials said she was cheating because her daughters received a quality education without paying taxes to fund it.

Alright Wiscosin! It has never been legal here.

I too feel for this woman, she was railroaded and perhaps targeted because of her race.  At the very least, it was most likely the child's color that lead the school to  verifying the residency requirements.

I am literally shocked that any one would peruse this level of prosecution for this offense.

A permanent felony on her record, and most likely leading to the loss of her job as a teacher plus all future jobs being unobtainable is cruel and unusual punishment. Ohio has a misdemeanor charge that could have been used  if they were so hell bent on a conviction. All government entities involved with this tradegy of justice should be sued for civil rights violations.

Thank God we have the freedom to choose where we want our kids to go to school where I live. If it is a school not within your district, all you have to do is fill out a little bit of paperwork and have the transportation to get your child to and from school.

I feel for this mother. It must have been a nightmare going through this kind of BS.

AKRON -- An Ohio woman convicted of improperly enrolling her children in a neighboring school district has left jail after serving nine days.

The Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network is trying to raise money online so Kelley Williams-Bolar can appeal her case. She indicated to the  Akron Beacon Journal following her release yesterday that she was overwhelmed by support and attention.

A jury this month convicted the Akron woman of felony records tampering. Prosecutors said she registered her two daughters for school using her father's address in the suburban Copley-Fairlawn district.

The  Beacon Journal reports Williams-Bolar was sentenced to 10 days in jail but the judge gave her credit for one day of time served when she was arrested in November 2009.
