Something out There

There’s something out beyond the trees

Causing me to feel weak in the knees

Not anything I really want to see

I can’t overlook something this eerie,

It all started the other day

News of a friend who had passed away

Seemed to make the whole day turn gray

But, something told me I shouldn’t stay,

Out beyond the canopy of shadows

I get a feeling ominous and hollow

There’s something there I’m afraid to follow

A darkened force that turns wives to widows,

Little Jane went outside to play

She hasn’t been seen to this day

Mel went out just to have a smoke and went astray

Found his remains in a state of decay,

Reported it to the police to them it was a joke

What about that farmer found with his neck broke?

Then there was that thing in the sky with smoke

There’s hysteria now among the town folk,

A hunting party was organized

Hounds, shotguns, and a scream they didn’t recognize

What it was they could only theorize

One thing was for sure it could terrorize,

A veteran shot at it and thought it looked like a man

It’s been stalking farm animals on my land

A type of evil for which we never planned

That scream again beyond the trees in the wetland.
