The Fool at the End of the Trail

There is a fool who lives just beyond the trail

He’ll stand outside beneath the falling hail

He has no common sense beyond the pale

He’ll propose a billion dollar unnecessary rail,

The sheep don’t like him but they put up with him anyway

Even though their country could collapse any day

They should know better than to believe anything he would say

But he’ll speak in a thousand voices come what may,

Still the trail is too cloudy and the sky is turning gray

The ones who make the journey the fool will betray,

Another crisis on the radio and the TV all the time

The economy is failing as the temperatures climb

Washington DC is full of corruption and slime

The fools holding office are the source of the crime,

Some people are so desperate that they just can’t go on

While others are obsessed with the condition of their lawn

Still others ask the questions while the answers are forgone

And the fool merely stumbles from dusk until dawn,

Still the trail is too cloudy and the sky is turning gray

The ones who make the journey the fool will betray,

Patriotism among the sheep seems to be dead

Perhaps this is why they are so easily misled

It’s staggering the nothingness that goes on in their heads

Innocents in mass shootings lay on the ground where they’ve bled,

Still I manage to get by day after day

Thanking the Lord through all my dismay

Better than begging you to stay Baby stay

It’s not difficult to wish that you’re far, far away,

Still the trail is too cloudy and the sky is turning gray

The ones who make the journey the fool will betray,

The world changed overnight when the fool came to be

He’s far too committed against you and I being free

The fool at the end of the trail has a face growing pale

It seems that his mission is for our country to fail,

He doesn’t seem to care you can send him your mail

Why is it in this world only fools seem to prevail?

My eyes are growing misty as my country sets sail

When the going gets rough your countrymen will bale,

Still the trail is too cloudy and the sky is turning gray

The ones who make the journey the fool will betray.
