The Silver Ships

There was a voice that came from up in the sky

Something you just couldn’t deny

Loud enough to make you cry

It couldn’t have been a cosmic sigh,

The silver ships came in one by one

Entering the atmosphere blocking out the sun

Everybody began to run

It looked like mankind was outgunned,

The trees exploded and we headed for a ditch

It all seemed like a nightmare now season of the witch

Laying on the ground was my best friend Mitch

No one was insulated not the poor or the rich,

Missiles rose up to meet the threat

It seemed most missed to our regret

My girlfriend was trembling she was so upset

As the battle wore on they knocked down another jet,

Screams of joy when the occasional silver ship went down

Not near enough to save our town

The heat rays disintegrated everything around

We appeared to be losing the ultimate military showdown,

Through the night the fighting went on

Then came the next bloody dawn

Suddenly something seemed to be infringed upon

It seemed like some of the silver ships had withdrawn,

When one of them fell from the sky

We all gathered wondering why

The occupants were sick and about to die

Could this be a miracle it wasn’t a lie,

God in his wisdom had created tiny germs

These organisms gave no surrender terms

An examination of their remains only confirmed

God had doomed the invaders for all to discern.
