Trump Ups Nuclear Ante With 'Mini-Nukes' Deployed On Subs To "Deter Russia"

This very much increases the chances for a nuclear exchange..

The United States has added a 'low yield' nuclear weapon to its submarine arsenal in a controversial first in decades, after the Trump administration called for its deployment as part of the 2018 Nuclear Posture Review in order to "deter Russia"

"Moscow, the argument goes, might have miscalculated that the United States was unwilling to use its nuclear weapons in response to a Russian low-yield nuclear strike because the existing U.S. weapons were too powerful," The Hill reports.

Undersecretary of Defense for Policy John Rood acknowledged in a statement that “The U.S. Navy has fielded the W76-2 low-yield submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) warhead.”

“This supplemental capability strengthens deterrence and provides the United States a prompt, more survivable low-yield strategic weapon; supports our commitment to extended deterrence; and demonstrates to potential adversaries that there is no advantage to limited nuclear employment because the United States can credibly and decisively respond to any threat scenario,” he added.

Some Congressional Democrats have argued that the warhead, which is less powerful than the Hiroshima bomb, alarmingly lowers the threshold whereby the US would be willing the deploy a nuclear warhead against an enemy. Critics also see that the W76-2 is redundant given the current arsenal of lower-yield air-launched nuclear weapons.

The Pentagon, however, says such a deterrent which is not as powerful as America's standard nukes but still has major destructive capability nonetheless, is crucial for dissuading enemies like Russia from engaging in limited nuclear conflict. US officials have underscored that such weapons will only be used in “extraordinary circumstances”. Advocates in the administration have also said the W76-2 launched from a submarine can more reliably penetrate air defenses compared to the more usual airplane launch.

Rood explained further in his statement: “In the 2018 Nuclear Posture Review, the department identified the requirement to ‘modify a small number of submarine-launched ballistic missile warheads’ to address the conclusion that potential adversaries, like Russia, believe that employment of low-yield nuclear weapons will give them an advantage over the United States and its allies and partners,” according to The Hill.

First of all, who's being invading other countries after the fall of Soviet Union? Giving military support upon invitation is not invasion, just like in Syria where Russia has kicked the ISIS's ass. I'm not in favour of anyone invading any other country. If they cannot get their act together and build a working society, insulate them and let them starve to death. And don't, for Christ sake, import them to Europe or any other part of world. It is very probable that all of China, US, Europe, Russia, British,.. are under Satanic Cabal's control and will be goaded to war when the time is ripe.

WE ARE UNDER OCCULT ATTACK

James, I seriously doubt Russia could field much of a war with their depleted economy and infrastructure and who the hell would want to find out anyway if we won what would be left of the world to brag about? Ever since world war II the US got itself into the global police business and establishing the dollar as the world reserve currency so all the spineless nations who won't defense themselves expect us to do it and the US becomes the only thing holding NATO together and why? So we never get blindsided by a global war again? I agreed with Trump bring 40 billion home form the NATO alliance so they could pat their share unlike other chickenshit presidents in the past who would not ask'em to pay up!

Less - Noted. Thanks.

Doc - I don't think the Rooskies have any ambitions of attacking the US, they don't have the manpower, the infrastructure, etc. Or the will, they just want to be left alone. BUT their military industrial complex works differently than ours. In the US, the goal is to sack the govt for all the tax $$ they can, in exchange for inferior junk. In Russia if you do that, you end up the target of a firing squad, or in a deep dark hole, for life. I'd hate to see US defensive missiles go up against Russian nukes. I think we'd lose, big time.

By the way, we are behind the 8 Ball on hyper missiles which happened thanks to the Democrats under funding the military. The Russians have them. Thanks to the Clintons the Chinese have modern nuclear missile accuracy. I'm not a hawk but one does not experience peace fromm weakness or being sabotaged from within! Obama giving 150 billion back to Iran with interest was also provocative. America is under assault from within and from without. Damned if we do and damed if we don't.

One might recall that the Russians were running aerial maneuvers with nuclear capable tactical fighters over the north pole, during the Obama administration in violation of the Monroe Doctrine they sent a military convoy to Venezuela and delivered weapons, and one might also recall while Obama was grab assing with Bear Grills on one of his dumbass shows the Chinese violated Alaskan waters and moved a huge task force off shore there. Russia is also partaking in joint maneuvers with the Chinese who as you know are pressuring the South China Sea where the majority of cargo shipping is conducted. Tom Clancy once made an interesting statement, "Russia is like the Bear. It appears harmless and even playful, but a Bear is deadly!" Putin, former KGB agent used to delight in beating the shit out of people. Tigers don't change their stripes.

JR, I share your view about US-Russia military activity. Did you get an opposite idea? Finnish politicians are very stupidly siding the country with NATO while Russia has no apparent intention to invade us. Well, that's what they are paid for, to create as big a mess as possible.

Less, we've surrounded Russia with missile installations, right on their border. Russia had ceased far afield recon flights until the US started regularly violating their airspace. And as Putin has said, there's no way to tell if what's inside are defensive missiles or first strike weapons. Again, I wish I was wrong, but I don't think I am. Russia doesn't go tear-assing across the world regime-changing and stealing resources. They just want to be left alone.

James, the proposed use of tactical nukes is nothing new. The use of these was discussed in the Korean conflict and communicated to the Chinese who finally declared an armistice rather than continuing to throw millions of their men against a useless onslaught. My dad had two tours of duty there and how he returned to normal life I don't know but his generation were the greatest for a reason. They didn't complain or whine, they just did their job.

On the other side of Atlantic, Russians are planning how to "deter US". How many wars have they actually started compared to US? Oh, but we cannot count those pre-emptive strikes as starting a war.
