Dream Act immigration reform bill to be put to US Congress this week Democrats hope the bill, which will offer path to citizenship to 2m illegal immigrants, will win over Latinos before mid-term elections
The US Congress is poised to vote this week on a bill that offers more than 2 million young illegal immigrants a path to citizenship, a move that will re-open the toxic debate on the issue ahead of the November mid-term elections.
The vote could come as early as tomorrow.
The bill is being introduced by the Democratic Senate leader, Harry Reid, and is facing widespread opposition from Republicans.
The Democratic party sees it as a no-lose situation. If the Republicans vote against, the Democrats hope this will cement their position as the party of the Latinos.
A Republican senator, John Cornyn, accused the Democrats of being "cynical and transparently political" rather than interested in genuine immigration reform.
The bill would allow young illegal immigrants to become citizens if they have completed a university or college education or served two years in the military.
Obama, responding to anger from Latino leaders this month at his failure to deliver on his pledge, urged them to get out and vote in November, and portrayed the Democrats as their friends and the Republicans as their enemies. He told Latinos not to forget "who is standing with you, and who is standing against you".
The Pentagon, struggling to maintain levels of recruitment in the face of troop demands in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere, is among the backers of the bill.
In a tactical device by the Democrats, the bill has been tacked on to legislation approving defence spending for next year, making it harder for the Republicans to obstruct it. If the defence spending approval is held up the Pentagon will have to seek emergency funding elsewhere.
The bill is labelled the Dream Act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) and insists that would-be students are of good moral character, came to the US before the age of 16, obtained a degree from an institute of higher education or "served in the uniformed services for at least two years and, if discharged, received an honourable discharge".
Supporters of the bill say that young people should not be penalised for the behaviour of their parents in entering the US illegally.
But opponents say it rewards lawbreakers. Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which opposes the bill, said: "At a time when our country is at war and our troops are fighting and dying in Afghanistan, the use of a bill to authorise funding for our military to benefit illegal aliens exemplifies why the American public has grown contemptuous of the way today's Washington operates."

so 7R33SandR0P3S is the picture you posted suppose to be humorous? (its not) (i think its derogatory) And whats your big worry about "securing the border FIRST" all about ...just curious ... is it because of drugs, workers, (shhhhhhhh) or terrorists?
The reason I'm glad that the bill"didn't pass" is due to requiring immigrants to "have"to join the war machine. Boy what a crock of mixed priorities. The military needs to fill the "fresh meat for wars and occupation positions" sooooo... they reach out to the immigrant communities to have them "fight our dirty wars" to get papers to live here (go kill those guys and we will let you stay here ) (sick!) ...heck maybe if your lucky under that failed DREAM act ...you could get your citizenship ...all the WHILE... we US government, are sending you to your birth country to fight your old neighbors and friends, family, etc, But, this time you will be waving a flag of your "new country" ..pretty twisted huh? (And speaking of "twisted") you mentioned an ...."armed force revolution?.... WTF? ...do you mean for Imperialism and New World Order?

The people spoke when the "McCain - Kennedy Amnesty Bill" was defeated.
The consensus was that before any amnesty laws could be constructed, THE BORDERS NEEDED TO BE SECURED FIRST!!! I agree with that. Short and simple. Good reasoning.
The "bait", illegals join the military. That's all we need. Illegal foreigners in U.S. uniforms. What kind of armed revolution could we be looking at?

I'm happy the GOP proved me wrong, because of them the dream act was turned down, must say though I was surprised! Might be hope for us yet, NOT! Wait to they take control and see what they do! This is not a party thing, this is a both party overthrow of the U.S. as we have known it! Elections coming so they will kiss as* until then! Hopefully, they will prove me wrong again, but for some reason I'm doubting it!

Got to say I'm a bit nervous, I see whats happening and don't have to look very hard! Maybe the people of the US don't want Freedom, maybe they want this depend on Govt. to survive! They don't even know what is going to come with that! I've read a couple of reports from some friends that work in the govt. and said if a armed conflict in the US ever comes they will use bio. weapons! That the ones that they will use we don't even know they have! And they don't care who is killed in the attack! Goes to show everybody even LEO"s and first responders mean nothing to them! How can most of the American people not know what is going to happen, just looking through history! Prepare people what is coming is pure evil! We re in a world of Do-Do!

Doesn't matter, they have showed they don't care what the American people think, They will pass it anyway! We don't have a government anymore! We lost that a long time ago! Now it is time to prepare ourselves for what is to come! Make things right with our Father in Heaven, and prepare yourselves for the knock at the door! I wrote my senators, but won't hear from them until the vote passes, they are dems! We can talk all we want, but it is coming, not even a armed stand up can stop this!
The worst thing I can see in this is our Children and Grandchildren will have to pay for our life of Freedom! For they will not be able to taste what we have!

Well MGM, reasonable reforms require reasonable discussion but blanket amnesty and wide open borders is far outside the bounds of reasonable. Show me a country I can just walk into and be legal now. If you don't start with the world's worst places to live it's going to take you a long long time and even then it'll probably be difficult if not impossible.
It costs those same tens of thousands to immigrate to most any country in the world so yeah, it is fair. Not necessary perhaps but fair.
As for preference by nationality most countries have that as well, not fair at all but you seem to be under the mistaken impression that I think everything to do with immigration law is hunky dory when I specifically stated I would likely be in favor of certain reforms but noooooooo you gotta attack your made up straw man the same way you have to lump all immigrants, legal and illegal,together when it suits your purpose.

Sure, this country was built on immigrants but illegal immigrants and immigrants are two different things. It's the establishment that refuses to use the word illegal in conjunction with the word immigrant in order to confuse the issue with Orwellian news speak and lump all immigrants into a single group.
Sure the right wing often pays lip service to illegal immigration but that's just a smoke screen. They own the companies that benefit from the cheap labor race to the bottom so they will never really do anything about it.
If illegal immigrants stopped pouring over the border in uncontrolled numbers you might just be able to institute some immigration reform that would allow easier legal immigration for all, Africans, Eastern Europeans, South Americans from far beyond Mexico, Asians, Muslims. By demanding our resources for themselves illegally they rob these others of a fair shot at the same thing they are crying out for. How just is that?
