Notice he mentions casinos (I've never went in one, it seems insane to me). The anticipation of reward is where the dopamine shot is delivered, not when the reward is given. It must be a hard-wired algorithm meant to get us to reach beyond our grasp. Perhaps good for the survival of the group, if not the individual, especially in hard times. I disagree with him on religion.
You can see the problem with politics. It's gotten to a point where politicians ALWAYS lie about what they'll do once elected. But the masses continue to have faith. Perhaps voting booths should be made to look like slot machines. "Get your red-hot dopamine right here!" Our overlords have known about this for a while longer than us, that's a wager I would make.

I'm also pretty confident that the politicians lie, cheat and steal all they can. However, it's dissappointing to see the same old crooks being (s)elected again and again.
