Texas anarchist group fires world's first 3-D printed gun made entirely from plastic that can pass through airport metal detectors

Crude: The Liberator plastic gun is a simple single-shot weapon that fires a small .380-caliber bullet

Plastic: Sixteen of the 17 parts that make up the Liberator are plastic, constructed by a 3-D printer. A small nail is used for a firing pin

A Texas anarchist group has successfully produced the first-ever gun produced on a 3-D printer and made entirely of plastic parts.

Plastic is too weak to resist the high explosive pressure more than for a couple of rounds. Best gun material for high pressure parts and the crucial loading mechanism is steel or titanium. Only artificial material strong enough might be carbon fiber with the fibers correctly oriented to resist tensile stress. Firing a plastic gun, a gun that has its barrel or loading mechanism made of plastic,  is highly risky.

One day soon Less it will not only be plastic that is used through 3-D printers. Already they are working on organic 3-D printers for creating organs. They have been successful in getting the genetic material and blood to combine and grow. How long will it be before a new material is made to use in these printers that is stronger than plastic and liquified at low enough temperature to go through a 3-D printer? Since we are years behind what the government is privy to it would not surprise me if that material does not already exist. Just a thought.

Quite true. Who knows what's cooking in the secret laboratories.

Well imagine that. Good to know. Thanks Deep Space.

Impressive. Who knows what the metal printers cost in a couple of years.

when it takes only one shot to change things its perfect

Very true Joe!
