Excellent! thank you. String and rope is important. Wire wool and a 9v battery for making fire, lots of tin beans, lots of Tuna in Oil, another item you would think of is hand drill (not sure if you can buy them today), a good tool kit with all the essentials, crowbar, cutthroat razor, lots of old news papers, wheelbarrow, watering can, mouthwash, lots and lots of floss, sea salt, detol or alcohol for wounds.
If you have additional items you think are a must please add to list and pass on....
in other words basically, all the shit that was necessitated in 1864 ;)
big addition, get a hand pump with about 100-300 feet of 1/2" hose to access wells
Do you have a hand pump that you prefer? I have looked at several different kinds. But I haven't known the difference of the ability of the pumps. If you have information that could help me make an intelligent decision I would very much appreciate it.
As a woman (whose diesel generator is her Baby and I've had it for a long time), let me say this is a great list - that I'd like to add baking soda to. You can soak fruits n vegetables to clean them, brush your teeth, drink it in water as many people do for health reasons, wash your clothes, clean anything just about, it takes out smells and you can bath in it for real cleansing. It's used also in emergency rooms to help the heart during a heart attack. It's inexpensive and irreplaceable. farmers in Hawaii threw it on fields to absorb (or lift) radiation. I hope it's a good addition. And I hope we don't need this list! But to educate ourselves to be responsible is amazing, helps our community, and keeps us thinking of ways to improve it all.
Love it! well done! excellent addition. Lets keep the ideas flowing - as you say, let's hope we never have need of it! Just as an aside, it's very import to rotate your food supply and most importantly keeping it dry and free from those wiggly critters.
Great idea Marley... thank YOU. Baking soda it is! Great post james!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great list - thanks for the effort!
It's going to get ugly. Everybody running around like headless chickens.
So much needed and how many have had the prices go up already and how much will these products soar in the coming months. It's so heartless these price gougers can do such things to other humans.
Sewing items, such as: needles, thread. thimble. Old clothes, washed and packed. Remember anything can be patched. Patches of all kinds.
Jean material for making repairs to pants. cotton for diapers, silk, it can breath and also be an insulator. Nobody cares what you look like when survival is an issue.
As an after thought ear plugs, the good kind.
thanks for the list :-)
Think of things people do not ordinarily have in quantity that would be useful down the road for bartering. Imagine how valuable 500 toothbrushes would be in a bartering world. Imagine the value of having 500 Razors for shaving, pencils, decks of cards, shoelaces, boxes of cheap perfumes etc. Almost anything you can find at the dollar store that is small and useful.
As long has you have bartering items, the bare essentials, and a few good books on home remedies, survival, and an understanding of different methods of water procurement, you'll be better off than most.
