81 year old man beats red-light camera ticket, credits independent media with know-how

The famous song lyrics describe "the little old lady from Pasadena," but in this case it's an elderly man behind the wheel, and he's got some trouble.
The Orwellian surveillance state nabbed him, and issued him a red-light camera ticket for $500 bucks.

There seems to be little, if any discernment or discretion involved in traffic enforcement anymore. Cops don't act like they used to in the olden days. Today they seem to serve as revenue agents, squeezing the fruits of the public's labor as tight as possible. In addition, surveillance and tracking technology have removed the human aspect altogether, with machines and computers issuing monetary demands to motorists through the mail. But people are turing to the internet and to independent websites for information, and are successfully beating these revenue schemes!

An article in the latest edition of the Pasadena Weekly newspaper describes the situation of an 81 year old gentleman named Harry, and explains how the octogenarian motorist got out of a ticket through information he found at libertyfight.com!

Jennifer Hadley wrote Cam scam redux: Transit officials targeting the elderly and others ... which stated, in part,

"When I showed up last week, Harry was upset. He had received a "red-light camera" ticket from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The three-page letter had instructions for scheduling an arraignment, how to take traffic school, how to plead not guilty (you still have to pay the bail), and photos of Harry driving in his Camry looking a little frazzled. Harry explained to me what happened. "The car in front of me decided to swing wide to make a right turn at the last minute. I had to swerve around to miss him and I got caught in the light," he said.

Ms. Hadley then described their quest to resolve the situation, how cameras are "quite the racket" and that they "started planning Harry's defense." But she then explains how they learned that red light camera tickets in L.A. County are voluntary:

"I found this out through an article titled "As Memory Fades, Motorists Start Paying LA County Red-light Camera Tickets Again, Even Though They Don't Have To," published on the Web site libertyfight.com. .. the truth of the matter is that no matter where you get a camera ticket in Los Angeles County, paying it is absolutely optional. Case closed."

The writer concludes that Harry's "best course of action is to throw the ticket in the trash and forget the whole thing ever happened," that "those camera tickets are an utter sham", and that the bullies at the MTA "ought to be ashamed of themselves."

Congratulations to Harry and Jennifer! It's absolutely wonderful to see the revenue agents being thwarted by people of all ages. As the old saying goes, resistance is victory and knowledge is power.
I love it when I see verification of people getting positive results. This is precisely why I started my website.

The article, Motorists Start Paying L.A. County Red-light Camera Tickets Again (Even Though They Don't Have To) was originally published May 13th and has been one of the most highly-trafficked and consistently viewed articles on the site. A google search of 'red light ticket Los Angeles' displays the article at the top of the list out of a million results. The article has also been consistently visited by L.A. County's official ISP as well as law firms, universities, school districts, cities, mainstream news outfits, and corporations. [See screenshots below.] We love to share this type of information. John Shanahan, for example, has beaten five traffic tickets through the mail. Details on all his victories, along with court documents, are posted on his archive page at the site. Our traffic ticket archive page is here. The story which led me to always fight traffic tickets is here.

Thanks to the editor of highwayrobbery.net for alerting me to this Pasadena Weekly story.

I threw mine away. Then I got a letter saying I needed to pay penalty and interest ... and if I didn't they wouldn't register my car until I did.

bet this law gets changed?
