A 16-year-old boy of afghan descent (meaning asylum seeker) is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in a case that was kept out of public sight for a long time.

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped at a public toilet in a shopping center in Esbjerg on a Saturday evening in March. A case that the police first reported had taken place when the perpetrator had been arrested. The perpetrator a 16-year-old Afghan boy is accused of rape, other sexual acts than intercourse and rape attempt.

The case begins Friday at Esbjerg Court. According to the charges against the 16-year-old, the girl was forced into a toilet booth by the accused by force and threats of violence. In the toilet booth, she was subjected to rape and forced to perform oral sex.

The police were alerted when a security guard called it in. The police then searched for the perpetrator. Another 14-year-old girl had also reported that she had been subjected to rape, why the police were in fact searching for several perpetrators. Two arrests were made, but the 16-year-old was only charged while they had to let another 20-year-old man go due to insufficient evidence.

But quite suspiciously, the case only came to the public's attention, when the two suspects had been arrested and that only happened when JydskeVestkysten was tipped via ‘channels’ to dig into the case.

According to the police, however, there was a reason.

"We considered that in this case there was a particular concern to go to the two victims who, as you know, are only 14 years of age and had just been through highly traumatic experiences," explains chief of staff Lene Roesen, South and South Jutland Police in a written comment to Ritzau.

"There was also no need to call the public for help since we knew who they (perpetrators) were. Therefore, we did not go to the public with information on the matter," she says.

Prosecutor Britt Ankersø states that she will demand a 3-year prison sentence and expelled from the country.
