Turkish authorities on Friday launched an investigation after an unidentified yellow powder was found in a package sent to the Canadian consulate in Istanbul.

Suspicious envelopes containing a yellow powder were also sent Friday to the Belgian and German consulates prompting a security alert, officials said.

According to a written statement from AFAD officials, one person who opened the envelope at the Canadian consulate was directly exposed to the unidentified yellow substance found in the envelopes, and six others were indirectly exposed to it.

The individual who was directly exposed was sent to the hospital by officials.
