Rock Music Station Changed Its Format To A Chinese Kung Pao Chicken Music Format
WXMM is going to loose a lot of listeners I mean real good listeners who get up in the morning and listen to classic and current rock music, while the other station that is FM 99 WNOR that does a comedy bit show and right now WXMM has been given to the chinese. Please understand that there will be about less listeners now and its another station that causes intermod in my area since I am almost close to the transmitter. If you are in the Hampton Roads area please get with Max Media and pull this station off
the air. Remember this is not New York City or even Los Angeles, California. A chinese music station
would be good for to reach an audience in Los Angeles California, or in San Francisco CA and New York City where most Asians live there. . I feel that Max Media does not have enough to keep up they should rather sell their station to National Public Radio cause the station sounds like that Hearts Of Space program on WHRV-FM. The station has no entertainment no way to test out your sound system to see if it rocks. Max Media should also be called Oriental Media Channel group. We need to go online and study the Census Bureau reports and Max Media needs to also study the Census Bureau reports to compromise to see if there are alot of Asians living here before pulling this crap. As we know in Virginia

This is what the station should have been doing before they changed to a totally different format to screw things up!! The HD radio format is the way to go. FM 99 has HD Radio why can't Max Media have it as well then we will not have crazy flipping around formats. Max Media needs HD radio more because they are very disorganized. If they were going to change format, then they should of kept the rock on and switch around overnight and work on it in the background while reprogramming music.
Max FM was a great radio station, the best rock station that played music without the crazy morning show with a bunch of bathroom sounds and stupid noises. It plays music that we can listen to and enjoy, and understand, FM 99 plays too much new music and no hairband music.How is rock CD's and mp3s going to sell now? Now people have no choice but to listen to 106.9 The Fox or FM 99 or 96X FM 99 has alot of FCC complaint issues cause of innappropiate material they play on their show almost just as bad as Howard Stern. Max FM means crank up to the Max not turn your music down and fall asleep behind the wheel. Remember Tommy and The Bull? When they started joking about Mt. Trashmore that its going to be blown up? And the FCC got on their butts? People will be going out today and begin to get XM or Sirius satellite radio to hear some real rock music while commuting in the morning to work. When I get the money and time I going to get XM or Sirius satellite radio. Also I think Alice Cooper was on Max FM before doing a syndicated show.
According to a recent radio monitoring log, WXMM was playing The Fixx - Red Skies At Night ( please buy the song and support artist amazon.mp3 for 99 cents) and was looping the song over and over again for over 30 minutes to an hour. This is something that a Shortwave pirate station or any other pirate would do just to annoy people and attract attention to get shut down by the FCC... Very unprofessional for a stunt radio program. The song sounds like something that Max-FM would play in their normal playlist around lunch time, but when its being looped that sounds like a broken CD player that needs a radio engineer to repair. People want to hear the song all the way through, not looping over and over and over like around 100 times. And by the way I like this 80's song, please don't ruin it Kung Pao.
What Max FM could have done was keep the mainstream rock format on HD-1 and then place their
chinese format on HD-2 so people would appreciate and get some more listeners in our area. Right
now the FM radio band becoming beat now, there is only 1 rock station in our area and that is FM
99 WNOR, which will get the Max FM rock listeners now since they don't know where to tune. Also
satellite radio is going to be more popular now in the Virginia Beach area and Music Choice. I don't
think in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Hampton have a lot of Chinese
music listeners. Many chinese people here have HD radio, cause they are rich than the Americans
are. We need to get HD radio on the air on 100.5 MHz to get the rock format on HD 1 and Chinese
Music on HD-2. Chinese music doe NOT belong on the local FM bands maybe on on HD-2 or subcarrier SCA FM radio.

Restaurant around the corner. Last night I heard nothing but Chinese food commercials. This
station was meant for some Chinese restaurants that was not getting enough business like a AM Travellers Information Station to lure more customers in the Chinese buffets. I even saw that Dollar
Tree the Chinese Lead poisoning plastic store and Made In China imports is playing the music as well.
100.5 needs a SCA-FM subcarrier for this station or a multicast HD Radio 2 channel for their not
so popular project. This project is still considered to be experimental radio. Now the damn
station sounds like it needs to be relocated in the educational 88.1 to 91.9 region. I was listening to a song from the 80's and they were looping it all day till they changed to their damn format.

UPDATE: GCC Engineering wants to know where this stunt came from? How did it start in the first place? This sounds like another form of radio piracy and whatever is considered to be innappropiate for FM radio. How come the FCC did not block this from occuring. The stunt started in April and ended in Mid April.
According to this, this stunt this was some "secret brainwash messege " telling people that the dawn of China was coming here in America. Think about it, look at your wallet, the economy, most of it is going to China. Here is something below that may wake you up. The New World Order cares about nothing, but China. Otherwise we would have the regular Empire State Building colors. We just heard this broadcast, and it was kinda brainwashing and it was uncalled for our country. Why could 100.5 could just play country music or patriotic music or techno music? They did not want to, they wanted to broadcast a "secret messege" to local Hampton Roads listeners, maybe Virginia will be bought out by the Chinese people. Maybe communism is coming to Hampton Roads. We heard the music now, now communism is coming here in America. Nobody will know why this happenned in the first place. Maybe Chinese music programming will take over FM broadcasting.

I think this station is for people who are learning how to speak Chinese also aimed to Foreign Exchange Students from China. Here's another update. Some people said that the station is
going to be a classic rock station soon. I think they need to stop with all of this format change
with this one station. WCMS-FM should of stayed here on the air and play classic country music.
If they wanted Chinese on the radio, then get an SCA-FM generator and go on 67 kHz or 92 kHz
and let listeners get a SCA-FM decoder or sell receivers at these International grocery stores or serve Chinese restaurant business music just like Radio Pinoy did in New York City. Or get an license from Bi equity and put chinese on the HD-2 channel and leave the rock or country on HD-1. This stunt sounds like Muzak on broadcast FM. I see that many Asians we know in this area are places like Happy Buffet and other Chinese places. Maybe they will get the classic rock on HD-1 and then Chinese music on HD-2 then everything will be fine. It's too bad that we cannot hear country on this station. When they get this Classic Rock format on the main FM stereo channel and HD-1, they will need to relocate and move Kung Pao and his Kung Fu party in the HD-2 studios.

Practical Jokes are against the FCC rules and regulations something that a pirate radio station would do. This station is suppose to be professional and community supportive and entertaining. This station needs to move to an internet only stream NOT FM. Maybe someone hijacked the station cause I remember they were playing a real good 80's song then changed to a format pirate radio stations broadcast.

If this is a practical joke, THE JOKE IS GETTING OLD AND STUPID. People at Barn Stable Broadcasting needs to GROW UP! I rather hear techno, hip hop, dance music than this crap. I think someone who works there needs to investigate it, if not the FCC will soon just wait. FM radio is serious business and many retailers lost lots of money over radio advertising. This is not China. This practical joke sounds like National Public Radio music programming on WHRV-FM. If they cannot get themselves together, they need to go off air or put a format on that everyone understands. This FM frequency is NOT MUZAK channel for Chinese Restaurants selling Beef Wong Tong Soup.

Adam, Adam, Adam, get a clue! And everyone else, too. Can't you recognize a practical joke...a radio station stunt...when you hear one? A new format is coming to 100.5 but I'm sure it's not Classic Chinese Hits. This is a stunt to create word-of-mouth, and when it's over, you'll have a new bland, heavily-researched, non-entertaining station to listen to. Enjoy the creativity of this stunt while it lasts.

I attempted to email them at the addresses provided above, which are the same addresses given on their web-site. The email bounced back. I thought at first the format change was a joke. I must say that I'm now a former listener. Who in their right mind goes from a Rock format to Chinese????!!!!

Read The Census Reports, there are not enough listeners that are interested in this format. Except for a bunch of Chinese food outing yuppies who want to listen to something weird. If you want to hear chinese music go online, get a shortwave radio, or get full view satellite dish. Also I don't see any Chinese TV channels here. I feel like I am in California or China when I hear that station.

What should of happenned is that WXMM has the money to get the license they need from Biequity and a new transmitter to go on HD radio. This would not happen if WXMM would keep their Rock
format and then put the Chinese music on the second HD-2 multicast channel. Hearing chinese
music really makes my ears hurt, probably why I don't listen to chinese radio stations. And not to mention that when people hear this music the chinese will get alot of hungry people crowding up the chinese buffet resturants. I feel that this station is sending a subliminal transmission to make people eat more chinese buffet food! Believe me I love chinese food, when I hear music like that its going to make me go to Happy Buffet and chow down. This music is meant to be on a audio SCA-FM subcarrier 67 kHz or 92 kHz just like they did with other foreign radio stations in various areas such as New York City and keep the main rock format on 100.5 MHz which the 67 kHz subcarrier is there, all you need is an SCA decoder to listen to it. Or be more modern, go on HD-2. I know people want to rock out in the morning.

To James aka adap2k. We know we are in a "free country" BUT come on. Who did the research here? I can understand it changing to a Tejano station NOT Chinese. Well I do believe the people who enjoy listening to rock music and alot of talk will do something. FM99 is lame now. Not everyone wants to hear those bafoons in the morning. We want to rock out. Where's the audience? I see more hispanics in this area than Asians. The Chinese are going to take over they already have our jobs...

This is an interesting story Adam, however in a what's left of our free country and still having free some speech, I do not think you can demand they change the format back.
The company must think there is an audience for their product and they should have the right to air what they want.
