Facebook the all seeing eye

Your Facebook writings could come back to haunt you. Social Intelligence Corp monitors a variety of online destinations for employers.

While seven year’s worth of information will be archived, employers won’t be able to access archived information. The company explained why: “Data is archived purely for compliance reasons and not used for any other purposes. This is to provide a verifiable chain-of-custody in case the information is ever needed for legal reasons. Archived data is never used for new screens. As per our policies and obligations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the only information we collect on job applicants is employer defined criteria that is legally allowable in the hiring process. Examples of this include racist remarks, sexually explicit photos or videos, or illegal activity such as drug use.”

What do you think–how many different kinds of online writing should prospective employers be able to read? This is a good time to check out the Facebook

Privacy Guide.

UPDATE: Forbes has corrected their original story about Social Intelligence. Here is an important clarification about the process: “Social Intelligence had sent me some of the reports they’ve provided to employers so far, including a job applicant who had a photo on a social networking site that featured multiple guns and a sword, and another who was designated racist for joining the Facebook group, ‘I shouldn’t have to press 1 for English. We are in the United States. Learn the language.’ … Social Intelligence’s ‘negative’ findings will stay in the files of Workplace-Shooting-Waiting-To-Happen and No-Hablo-Espanol for seven years per the requirements of FCRA, though new employers who run searches through Social Intelligence won’t have access to the materials if they are completely removed from the Internet.”

Editor’s Note: This post has been corrected to add clarification from the company.

That is a good site to help you prepare for the ultimate delete of FB, but there is another site that takes you right to the "Delete Face Book"site. I deleted and changed as much info as I could. It's like gold to them. Don't leave them anything. not even a crumb.

I found these while searching for how to permanently delete your FB account.  Any ideas if they will work or just bogus?

I've  seen  actual  "Wars  of  Words"  on  Fabcebook.  No  one  really  cares  what  you  write  -  the  people  stick  closely  to  their  followers!!!  Everyone  knows  what  little  privacy  they  have.  But  they  print  it  anyway...  Last  time  I  read  the  Rules  &  regulations  -  if  you  quit;  you  can't come  back.  Not  true  -  you're  in  the  system.  There  is  no  way  to  quit  -  like  Plenty  of  Fish.  A  year  after  quitting,  I  still  get  messages  -  they  won't  go  away.  So  I  blocked  them.  My  real  friends  email  me!!  Chatting  on  I.M.  is  the  same.  Facebook  or  MSN!!!  Ect...  Also;  a  "Friend"  on  Facebook  is  not  nesessarily  a  "Friend"  on  another  Site  -  Strange,  ah????   That's  not  Friendship  at  all.

I know, it only   "deactivates" the account, leaving the door open for you if you want to come back.

Facebook never deletes the information you've uploaded, even if you cancel your account : (

Oh dear. I was just kidding. I'm Dutch, and I live on a stamp (relative to the size of the US). Our culture is a traders culture, so we learn at least 4 languages in school. Dutch and English are obligatory, and the rest is by individual choice and can even be "Thai", or "Korean", if people so choose. More than 4 languages is also allowed. We're also very aware that learning someone else's language does not mean we understand their culture, or any individual we meet. And of how important it is to speak someone else's language to begin with, for making a more relaxed connection to help solve a problem. This is why a lot of call centres have flocked around Amsterdam, cos you can easily find multilingual employees for the weirdest languages for all kinds of software being used worldwide. Buttons leading to skype and phone connections, likely get pushers to end up in Amsterdam talking to a Dutch person. And because knowing many languages is not considered "special" here, and are therefore less valued, the wages for that work are low.

Lemme finish my little rant with a joke (that might set some people on fire ;):

Quote by Terry Pratchett: "A European says: I can't understand this, what's wrong with me? An American says: I can't understand this, what's wrong with him?
I make no suggestion that one side or other is right, but observation over many years leads me to believe it is true."
