A free child identification program is being provided in Pontiac schools to ensure that if a child goes missing, information will immediately be ready to provide to police.
Volunteers from Gibralter Lodge No. 19 Prince Hall Affiliate Masonic Lodge in Pontiac, MI documented identification marks, height, weight and digital fingerprints for about 43 kindergartners at Herrington elementary this week. They recommend an update every two years.
The organization plans an aggressive campaign throughout the schools before summer, said Pontiac school board Vice President Gill Garrett and members of Gibralter Lodge, including Worshipful Master Thomas Plaines. Montalvo Harris, CHIP director for the state of Michigan from the Grand Lodge in Detroit, was in Pontiac to help get the program started. It is funded by the organization and free to parents.
