A Point in History

I'm up at this hour just give me a break

I want to quit but there’s too much at stake

Can't sleep with these thoughts for goodness sake

Too many listening to the fork tongued snake,

She always looked like she was about to cry

You took the love she had right out of her eyes

What’s the use once you realize?

Betrayal can never be legitimized,

Sitting alone in this empty chair

With that thousand mile stare

Wondering if anyone is there

Where are you God you say that you care?

She took many chapters of my life

Where there was love you created strife

The tension in the room you could cut with a knife

I might as well march into battle playing a fife,

After all of my giving

I’m shocked at the way I’m living

The Lord will say, “Just keep on forgiving”

If only I’d known from the very beginning,

The recriminations are way too old

There’s many more truths to unfold

I’ll admit these experiences have left me quite cold

In this world where souls are bought and sold,

I’m just an unknown street corner poet

Slightly bitter wouldn’t you know it?

Pulling recollections from the dusty closet

What of those things you loved and now regret?

There’s an owl in the darkness and a creak of the floor

There comes a time when a good man can’t take anymore

If you’ve read this far I hope you’re not bored

It seems today that evil is running up quite a score,

You might believe that I’m a little bit grim

Wondering just what did the world do to him

Perhaps it’s the conformists who are quite dim

Saving their country is going out on a limb,

It seems I’ve arrived at a point in history

When every conclusion is based upon a mystery

Where truth has become no more than conspiracy

Be careful, your facts could get you accused of heresy,

Words escape me as I come to a close

How is it that contempt so easily grows?

A word of advice from the path I once chosen

Be careful of the implications of the seeds you’ve sown.
