Clive Henderson of Logan, Utah was out hiking as one of his favorite pastimes. On this occasion he brought with him a brand new top shelf drone to do some aerial exploration of the neighboring Wasatch Mountain Range. This stretch of peaks makes up a northern band of mountains that help form the Logan valley which often causes thermal inversions sometimes trapping stagnant air masses over the community for days, especially in the summer. Another feature of this terrain are the frequent Bigfoot sightings that have amazed and startled hikers and families out for recreation.

As Clive navigated his UAV over the slopes of the mountain range a never before seen anomaly popped up! Never had he seen a cave opening near the outer perimeter of the foot of the mountains. Why hadn’t he seen this before? Only a recent rock slide could have uncovered it! As he observed, he switched on the search light LED’s on the drone and found that the entrance was big enough that he could have the clearance he needed, so he carefully kept an eye on the screen and hovered into the cave. Once inside, it opened up into a large cavern, but wait! There below his hovering drone was what looked to be a pile of artifacts!

Upon magnifying his camera focus what looked like a stack of crystalline tubular containers lay on the floor of the cave and up against the rocky wall! It looked as though something had been sealed inside the tubes like rolled papers or documents! Clive was fascinated! His professor friend at the local junior college would know how to go about this. These could be precious artifacts that needed proper handling! Wow! He cried out in joy! This was amazing. He grabbed his cell phone after withdrawing the drone and making a GPS recording of the exact location. There was no time to waste! He didn’t want some idiots stumbling upon this discovery and messing up the site! He took several close up photos before withdrawing the drone.

“Professor Entwhistle?”

“Yes, that’s me. How can I help?”

“This is Clive! How are you?”

“Fine, Clive, been a while. What are up to?”

“I’ve got something shocking to share with you!”

Clive proceeded to explain everything to the professor who became intrigued by Henderson’s tale of exploration! Although Entwhistle was in anthropology he was friends with another educator who taught archaeology, and plans for an initial site visit and appraisal were made hastily as the two professors were concerned over the site being tampered with or even vandalized! Clive took the professor for a drive to where he’d been when he had his drone inflight. It was already late fall and thick blanket of snow could be expected very soon which could obstruct their efforts! Clive started up his drone and sent it off up to the mountainous slope making note of the GPS position. After finding the cave entrance he and Entwhistle shared the screen images becoming more and more fascinated as each moment rolled by!

“This is amazing!” the professor bellowed. “I don’t know what we’re looking at quite frankly but it’s got to be something big! I’ve never seen containers like this before! This could be an historic find like the Dead Sea Scrolls, only it appears that these containers have been sealed and what’s ever inside is well preserved!”

“I told you!” Clive laughed.

“Jean Yoakum, my colleague will be amazed at this too! I need to call him and we need to set up a little expedition to get to that cave before anything happens to what’s inside!”

“Especially before the snowfall!” Clive nodded.

“What would you say the challenge would be to get up there?” Entwhistle asked.

“You know I’ve been hiking this area for a long time, and I’ve never seen this cave entrance before so I’m thinking a rockslide unveiled it! From what I can see how this happened. It looks like a 45 degree climb of about 100 or so feet. Not too bad, but I don’t know how loose that rock is up there.”

“Do you have any gear?” Entwhistle glanced at Clive curiously.

“Not for rock climbing,” Clive sighed.

“Neither do I,” the professor replied, “but I know an outfitter in Logan that we can get all the gear we’ll need from. I can charge it to the college as a special project grant!”

“That’d be great!” Clive nodded.

The late afternoon sun was starting to dwindle and temperatures were starting to drop. They needed to get back to town! Clive drove out of the erosion washed flats at the foot of the Wasatch Peaks and got back on the road into town. On the way the professor was on the phone to his colleague Yoakum, and was excitedly describing what he’d seen! Clive could tell as he drove that the other educator was just as curious and ready for an expedition of sorts!

“Can you meet us first thing in the morning over at Copper Mountain Outfitters?” Entwhistle asked his colleague. “Good! Need any climbing gear? Oh, you have your own? Great! See you around 8:30 then!”

It was about 9:30 AM as they left the outfitter shop and loaded into Clive’s 4 wheel drive 4 door Ford Pickup that would take them through the mouth of Logan Canyon and onto the foot hills of the Wasatch Mountains. At over 4,534 feet the mornings were brisk and getting chillier as winter began to close in! They quickly strapped on their gear and Clive once again acquired the cave entrance! The slope was a bit steep but the ground was not as loose as he had feared! The elevation made it difficult and they were all soon out of breath once they had finally reached their mysterious entrance.

Yoakum and Entwhistle quickly unpacked their kits and began carefully cleaning off the dust that had settled on the artifacts over the ages. All of the men marveled at the treasure they had uncovered, mysterious quartz tubes that were capped on both ends with some kind of composite substance. Yoakum carefully picked up one container and examined the contents. He was amazed at what he saw. Clive walked over next to his side and asked, “What you do think?”

Without looking at Clive as he studied the contents, Yoakum replied, “It seems to be some kind of scrolls or writings. It’s like hieroglyphics, and if I didn’t know better I’d say Minoan which would really throw the archaeological world upside down, but I’d doubt that it is. It’s a mystery!”

Entwhistle frowned, “We have a true riddle here to unlock, but once we begin scanning these writings and analyzing the syntax and patterns I’m thinking we can use the AI data base to see if it can unlock the language.”

Entwhistle smiled and nodded, “that would be our best bet!”

“Doctor, what do you think of these containers? If they’re crystal doesn’t this mean that they have certain frequency resonances?”

Entwhistle nodded, “Indeed, young man, good point.”

Clive continued, “And if, like the crystals used in early radios, would these containers be possible recordings that could be accessed or transmitted through?”

“Amazing hypothesis!” Yoakum admitted. “But, by whom?” His voice trailed off in almost sinister fashion.

“How about an extraterrestrial source?” Clive offered as both men stared at him as if they’d had an epiphany.

Yoakum lowered his wire rim glasses and glanced at Clive, “Young man, you have some astounding extrapolations!”

“Professor, care to hazard a guess as to how old this find might possibly be?” Yoakum asked Entwhistle.

“Until we do some carbon and other isotope dating, I couldn’t be sure, but if I had to guess. I’d say 15 to 16 thousand years old! These erratic’s easily contradict any North American timeline I can think of! “

“Exactly my feelings! We have something here that is very unusual!” Yoakum conceded!

“Clive,” Entwhistle said, “I’ll see you get credit for this find whatever it is, and that you get any money as compensation for your efforts!”

“We have just one problem gentlemen, “Yoakum added. “How do we get this material safely out of here? There’s no way we’re going to  try and carry this stuff down the slope and crawl back up and get more!”

“We can rent a backhoe with a front loading bucket. I think it will make it up the slope, and we can park it at the entrance making short work of filling up the bucket and we can drive it all into town,” Clive advised.

“Clive,” Entwhistle asked, “Could you drive the loader?”

“I could, but I’m a little hesitant with such a fragile load. I’d hate that the ground shock might damage any of this stuff.”

“Don’t worry old boy, this is thick quartz, it can handle a jostle or two. Besides we’ll get some loading blankets to help cushion any shock from the terrain.”

Clive shrugged his shoulders, “Well okay then.”

After Clive had driven the backhoe from the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains into town and to the University of Utah at Logan, the laboratory work began on the incredible find. Two days later they were all assembled at a specimen table. The university facility looked to be top shelf to Clive as he looked over all the gadgetry.

“We’ll open the first vessel in the nitrogen chamber in order to protect the contents. The oxygen in the air could cause rapid deterioration of the writings. Problem is this substance used to hermetically seal the quartz tubing.”

Yoakum replied, “The stuff could be resin or some kind of epoxy. What amazes me is its resilience! I think it surpasses any sealant or adhesive we’d manufacture today!”

“Well, whatever it is, I hope that this diamond tipped cutting blade will make a clean cut so that I can liberate these writings from the tubes,” Entwhistle replied thoughtfully.

As it turned out, the professor’s hopes were met with success. Once all three men stood in the nitrogen chamber wearing oxygen masks and looking like B-17 bomber crew members. Now they had uncapped the first scrolls, Yoakum poured over the transcriptions trying to see if he recognized any of the linguistics.

“We’ll have to run these writings through a scanner and see if Artificial Intelligence can unravel it,” Yoakum replied.

Hours were spent uncapping the quartz tubing and then running the writings through their scanner. Entwhistle was fatigued by the time he’d gotten to the last tube. He’d already gone through two diamond tipped rotary blades. “We’ll save this last one without opening it, “Entwhistle remarked. “This last one I want to send through a CAT scan and get a better idea of all possible analyses.”

Yoakum nodded approval as they now laid out all the scrolls and writings that seemed to be made of a silken cloth type material which proved even more intriguing. Both professors had anticipated a paper or parchment like material, but instead it was definitely a synthetic substance. This seemed to shore up Clive’s idea of an extraterrestrial origin, but by who, and where were they from?

Entwhistle glance at Clive standing there in a flannel shirt and jeans with his long brown hair flowing over his collar and handed him a lab coat. Since you’re part of the team you might as well look it,” he smiled.

“Wow! Thanks,” Clive hurriedly donned his white coat. This made him feel even more welcomed by his two highly educated partners.

“How’d you like a job here at the university as a lab assistant?” Entwhistle smiled.

Clive cheered up considerably, “Why that would be very cool!”

“What do you think Jean?” Entwhistle asked his colleague who nodded approval.

The Next day came the final phase and that was interpretation of the writings. All the scanned copies were fed into the dedicated Artificial Intelligence computer that was private property of the university and dedicated to its research partners. The scanned copies that were now on file would now be transferred into the AI system for deciphering. Clive, Professor’s Entwhistle and Yoakum all tensely awaited the results which they had no idea how long the first printed copies might take. Any minute, or hour, the translation process could turn out the anxiously awaited results. Meanwhile, Yoakum and Entwhistle were pouring over journals for any newly produced examples of as yet unknown hieroglyphics, but there appeared to be nothing close to what they had stumbled upon!

Then it happened, the computer printer came to life, rapidly rolling out one copy after another! Entwhistle and Yoakum quickly began snatching up copies careful to keep them in order as they both eagerly read over the material. Clive drummed his finger on a desk watching the two men pouring over the copies as the printer spat out more copies. Then Entwhistle brought over what appeared to be a conclusion by AI over what the material was.

AI analysis, for Logan Campus of University of Utah Archeological Department:

All scanned documents are unknown to any hieroglyphic data base currently available in any academic, archival, or artistic collections! Hence, one analysis would be that either the writings are of a previously unknown civilization (terrestrial) or even a non-human society that delivered these documents prior to modern Homo Sapient culture. The material recovered used as a medium for the writing is non-earthly in origin. However, based upon examples of all human forms of language, syntax, written terminology and dialect, AI has been able to decipher all material with a 97% confidence of accuracy. The following is one such interpretation which seems to have similarities to the predictions of Nostradamus while corroborating the findings of Emmanuel Velikovsky, who theorized the cause of the mass dinosaur extinction due to the asteroid strike which occurred offshore of the Yucatan Peninsula in the gulf region of southern American waters. A previously unknown individual by the name of Acassiashus, wrote the following series of quatrains in predicting a globally disastrous event.

From the very floors of the mighty oceans they will find

Geometric structure forcing them to look to ancient times far behind

As though proof of a document sealed and signed

While the charlatans dig for imaginary precious metal mines,

The heavens will be shattered by the fire and brimstone

As few will be left untouched and fearfully alone

The continents will quake like the rattling of bones

All that remains will simply be phantoms who moan,

Even the leviathan beasts who shake the ground

Will be vanquished upon hearing the roaring sounds

No safe haven for thee shall be found

The earth shattered as the devastation surrounds,

A demon from space that descends from the heavens

The year of the Jackal five six and seven

No soul shall know until the hour of eleven

As the fiery lion emerges from its den,

The seedlings woven into ash

Mother earth will suffer as if from a bleeding gash

For the titans of nature and calamity have clashed

Civilization torn asunder in a blinding flash,

The young and foolish the old and wise

Like columns of funeral pyres into the air will rise

Clouds of ash that will obscure the blue skies

Creation will assume a new terrible disguise,

Mankind of frailty and mortal souls

Encountering the serpent of volcanic coals

For when the Gods and angels looked away

Momentarily distracted only to awake in dismay,

However the seeds of humanity will rise again

Once they discover who is foe and who is friend

Even the rulers will be forced to bend

To the will of nature as the solar fire once again ascends.
