Central Connecticut State University on high alert during reports of body-armor-clad gunman
CCSU ordered students to find shelter, lock doors, close windows and stay inside on Monday morning in a campus-wide emergency alert. "Police are on the scene," the university's homepage declared.
Central Connecticut State University has issued a campus emergency alert asking all students to seek shelter, lock all doors and close their windows amid a report of a possible gunman.
Police tell NBC that a man possibly armed with a gun was reported entering a residential hall at CCSU. That sighting has yet to be confirmed.
"We will communicate when we have more info. This is not a drill," officials tweeted around noon Monday.
The university's website went all white telling students to stay inside and that “police are on the scene.”
The public school located in New Britain, approximately nine miles southwest of Hartford, and had an enrollment of 12,133 students in 2012 according to the school.
The university’s Facebook captured students’ confusion and fear over the alert with many imploring the school to provide more details behind the alert.

CCSU On Lockdown; Police Seen Taking Away Man In Handcuffs
2 people in police custody after lockdown at CCSU in New Britain

Sources told Eyewitness News at least two people are in police custody after a suspicious person carrying a gun was seen on the Central Connecticut State University campus in New Britain on Monday afternoon.
Students were advised to stay indoors and stay away from windows because a "campus emergency" Monday afternoon.
Federal sources told Eyewitness News an active shooter situation was reported at CCSU and the campus was placed into a lockdown around noon.
"We will communicate when we have more info. This is not a drill," university officials tweeted around noon.
Students told Eyewitness News an unidentified man, who was possibly wearing a mask and camouflage pants, with a gun was on campus.
Sources told Eyewitness News that three people were arrested, however no official word of an arrest has been released.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
