SHTF is a real possibility. Yet, on average people don’t take it seriously. Even after hurricane Katrina the overmind of society finds itself apathetic towards disasters or possible needs to repel persistent security threats.

The consequences are there.  We’ve seen it highlighted time and time again.

So what’s the deal? Why would any reasonable person avoid taking even the most basic of steps?

Here’s 5 reasons why people are not prepping:

  1. The Government Will Provide For Me.  -In an emergency, most people believe that police and fire personnel will come running for them.  And if things get really bad, we’ll all get help from the National Guard.  How did that work out for the people in Hurricane Katrina?
  2. Like Life Insurance, They’ll Never Need It (“That Won’t Happen To Me”).  -Believing that your life can change that quickly is a difficult concept to grasp.
  3. I’m Wealthy, I Can Buy Whatever I Need When Things Go South. -We are taught to keep an emergency fund of money on hand in the event of a rainy day.  I believe that many think their account balances will provide a safety net in the event of an emergency. I also believe that many people think that money in the bank and investment brokerages is wealth.  However, they are not considering what happens to that wealth when access to it is not there.
  4. I’ll Look Like A Crazy Person.  -Let’s face it, some preppers look a bit crazy.  We saw an example of a few on Nat Geo’s Doomsday Preppers show.  The last thing anyone wants to feel is like they are the only one believing the sky is falling.
  5. Because The Media Is Not Talking About It.  -Finally, the reason that scares me most out of the five.  When you tell someone about the Department of Homeland Security buying 450 million rounds of ammo, their first reaction is “I didn’t see that on the news.”  Most people tend to live their lives by getting their national and world news in 15 second sound bytes rather than research.

(I can think about 10 more reasons)

1. "The Government Will Provide For Me" - a myth MSM would like you to believe

2. "Believing that your life can change that quickly is a difficult concept"  - a myth MSM would like you to believe

3. . "I also believe that many people think that money in the bank and investment brokerages is wealth"  - a myth MSM would like you to believe

4. "preppers look a bit crazy" - a myth MSM would like you to believe

It cooks down to dummification by MSM
