This probably won't be a popular post but recognizing what I'm pointing out here really requires true independent investigation and it takes time and it requires reading.

I've spent the last several weeks reading about the Venezuelan Constitution written in 1999 and passed by over 80% of the voting public of that country. I've been studying Venezuelan politics and history as well since I really wondered what was behind the US government and mainstream media vilification of Hugo Chavez and Venezuela. I just sensed that there must be more than we're being told and of course like everything else, there is.

I discovered along the path of my investigation the article that appears below written by Stephen Lendman, a 70+ year old retired businessman living in Chicago who I've communicated with via email and who writes about almost every subject you might think of in the political spectrum. I wrote him and carried on a brief dialogue about a year ago. Nice man. Great writer. In depth investigation.

If you care about our country as much as I do then you will be quite interested in what's written here. Lendman provides a glimpse into American history that we rarely see. His revelations about the Venezuelan Constitution are Ok but I found far more interesting material elsewhere and if you're interested in the Venezuelan Constitution, which is perhaps the most dynamic and revolutionary political document written in the 20th century with real social change and humanitarian concerns, you can read more about it here:

http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/analysis/70

By the way, I do want to mention a few things about the Venezuelan Constitution. It says in part, "The State guarantees the equality and equitable treatment of men and women in the exercise of the right to work. The state recognizes work at home as an economic activity that creates added value and produces
social welfare and wealth. Homemakers are entitled to Social Security in
accordance with law." which means that women that stay home and raise families, children, are entitled to Social Security compensation for the added value to society that they produce by raising children and keeping the home for their husbands to be able to work.

There are many more aspects of the Venezuelan Constitution, regarding ecology, the right to a dignified life, health care and 'people power' that make the document truly revolutionary and I think anyone reading here on 12.160 would trade it for ours in a heartbeat.

We've been duped by a false history into believing our constitution is all that and honestly, if it was all that we wouldn't have the problems we have today.

Goddamn this thing is long.....I couldn't even finish it....and I got down to: Prospective Venezuelan Constitutional Reforms

(Sigh) He's right...we are no longer "the best deal around".....

If memory serves me, I think one man carved Mt. Rushmore himself. He gave his life to the work. I think it's truly ironic that Washington make "top of the list" and he wasn't even there to help draft the Constitution!
