I always find myself interested in alternative forms of medicine and pay close attention to what is and isn't promoted by Dr. Mercola and also the Natural News web site. By examining what these two web sites promote and what they don't promote I've been able to find a space I'm comfortable with somewhere in between standard medical practices and holistic health practices. Still, they aren't the end all be all for medicine and health, they're a guide.

I have rarely used a doctor and I'm 56. I take no medications. I occasionally use vitamin D and C supplements but my diet is primarily fruits and vegetables eaten raw so I'm confident that my vitamin and mineral intake is more then sufficient. I've never eaten Fast Foods, snack foods, candy's or confections in any quantity and in fact rarely eat them at all. I'm a healthy person.

Still, everything related to health is of great interest but the internet is a space with a variety of disinformation since anyone can post anything and investigating always worries me. It's difficult to distinguish between fact and fantasy, truth and non-fiction, but if one perseveres one finds truth.

So I wondered, why doesn't Dr. Mercola or Natural Health discuss Iridology? They discuss a variety of alternative medical therapies and methods of diagnosis. It isn't difficult to answer that question. There is no shortage of information across the internet on Iridology replete with scientific studies that have great merit. One only has to search and it doesn't take long. A hoax is a hoax no matter how it's clothed.

Read the confessions of an Iridologist.

A brief excerpt:

Based on what I now know I can find no argument that could persuade me to return to practicing iridology. Sadly, my interactions with practicing iridologists have failed to dissuade them from practicing what I feel is a deceptive and damaging practice. Why don't any other iridologists see the light? I am not able to answer that question accurately, but I can state that every iridologist I have gotten to know thoroughly believes that iridology is one of the best methods available for ascertaining the health of one's body. I am sure that there are some who practice iridology simply to dupe people and make money. Plenty of income can be made with iridology, but many, if not most, iridologists charge a relatively small fee for their services. These people honestly believe that they are helping people.

Despite the pure motives of those who practice iridology, one is forced to wonder how an iridologist can practice despite all the evidence against iridology. Several reasons come into play, and the list is much longer than can be enumerated here. When I was fully persuaded of the value of iridology, I was constantly confronted with evidence against iridology. I was not dissuaded from the practice by this evidence because I had believed the illogical answers I had been given by my own teachers.

To this day I cannot explain how the spell was finally broken. I do not understand fully what made the difference, but I do know that being trained in true science was a part of the equation.

I have been asked by many if my rejection of iridology translates into a rejection of all of alternative medicine. I would answer no. Iridology fits into a category of disproved alternative health care practices. These practices have no basis in real anatomy and physiology and have failed well-done trials and studies.

End

Investigating Iridology isn't a life-long process. It takes little time. There are a tremendous amount of scientific studies on the internet that prove quite sincerely that Iridology doesn't work and they prove why it can't and that's primarily concerned with the lack of nerves in the eye connected with the rest of the body and the large amount of tissue similar to cartilage which therefore can't relay medical conditions along neural paths. All too complicated for me to relate here. I would just hate to see intelligent people waste valuable time on what is proven beyond doubt to be worthless science.

I think whatever humans believe in strongly enough works, whether science proves it or not. In a hospital setting during recovery from surgery we know factually that prayer helps because the human being believes in it. That isn't proof of God, it's proof of belief.

Ann bakes bread frequently too. All kinds.

I believe Iridology is a hoax. The scientific evidence seems to prove that.

Truth be told I like you a lot, rely on you for information and would prefer you weren't distracted by misinformation. Also, that's the reason I promoted Facebook. There are a great many well meaning fighters there fighting the same things you and I are. Global Warming, Big Pharma, War and Obama. It has as much relevance to me as this site.
