Speaking on BBC’s Newsnight, Lord Heseltine revealed doubts about whether Brexit would go ahead after a difficult first day of negotiations.

When asked whether Brexit was dead, the former Deputy Prime Minister said: “Yes, as in the hard sense that we are going to leave the whole thing and be our own independent, sovereign nation.

“That is simply not the way the world is working.”

Lord Heseltine revealed he “wasn’t sure” that Britain would even leave the Brussels bloc after the Government failed to win the first argument in the Brexit negotiations on Monday.
