"They're making a whole big thing out of a child's show," said one child.

When it comes to the recent uproar around whether or not Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street are romantic partners, it would seem that most adults have formed their own strongly-held opinions.

But what about the show's target demographic? What do they think?

Well, popular YouTube series Kids React has found out - and it seems young people are a tad divided on the subject too.

"I'm pretty sure they're brothers or best friends," said 8-year-old Tilda.

She added: "I remember when I was little, they used to sleep in the same room."

When it was mentioned to the kids that some people believe Bert and Ernie are a couple, the reaction was, well, underwhelming in the best sense of the word.

"Oh, okay, maybe" quipped 9-year-old Bradley.

"Okay, mmhmm, they should totally think about that for a kid's show," said 10-year-old Jenna, with an almost undetectable note of sarcasm.

"Now that we’re clear on Bert and Ernie, can we now please discuss Big Bird’s massive non-binary vibe."

"I doesn't really matter to me, because I know they're puppets," wise-beyond-her-years Tilda added.

"People just need to get over it," said 13-year-old Chloe.

"There are worst things in the world than a boy dating a boy and a girl dating a girl."

While others thought it was a "bit weird", perhaps the main take-away was this: “Who cares? You need to care about the law, people! Care about the government!”
