Israel's US Proxy in SOuth Sudan will control Chinese Oil Supplies.

http://www.islamabadglobe.com/?p=31517

The US sees the emergence of Southern Sudan as a “victory” and a coup against its global rival, China. The Israelis spread depredation and nurtured and fed the civil war since 1955 when Southern soldiers mutinied against Northern officers. The proxy War continued at different levels of intensity for about half a century with barely a decade of peace, from 1972-83 . Unfortunately for Sudan it was in 1978 that Chevron’s discovered oil in the South. At the time Haile Mengistu in Ethiopia was backing the Southern rebels. When in 1991, the USSR broke up, the Mengistu regime collapsed and Sudan which had been a strategic ally of the U.S. against the USSR was dropped as a hot potato.

In 1956 Israel, France and England attacked Egypt and tried to wrest control of the Suez Canal. Back them it was America who foiled the Anglo-Israeli plan and they had to retreat–thus ending the big power status of Britain and France. From that day onwards, Britain was never great again. France became a second rate power and the US gained Superpower status. Both Britian and France did however nurture hopes to resurrect their power over its former dominions. Israel on the other hand has been w growing power trying to claims its Ertz (Great) Israel status–from the Nile to the Euphrates. Israel also has huge influences in Ethiopia after the Eritrea decided to leave  Haile Selassie’s Abyssinia.

The war in Iraq was to secure its influence in the Euphrates. Sudan is of course on the lower Nile. The Nile River flows through all of Sudan (North and South). Its main tributaries, the Blue Nile (originating in Ethiopia) and the White Nile (originating in Lake Victoria and its feeding rivers) converge at Khartoum, Northern Sudan’s capital.

Egypt was neutralized through bribes after it won the 1973 Ramadhan war.

”Till 1956 Sudan used to be part of Egypt. When Sudan separated right after the Suez crisis, Egypt was in no condition to take control of the Sudan. While the US and Israel have been successful in bifurcating Sudan, trouble in the mother country Egypt may backfire on the Israelis and the Americans.

Decades after the US had thwarted Israeli attempts to occupy Arab lands, this time around, the US was an active participant in destroying Sudan. Get South Sudan ready for independence the U.S. would have a new oil-rich client that’s open for business. The not so covert covert aid to the Southern rebel forces, sent thorough proxies in Israel allowed the US to get a foothold on the Nile. Southern Sudan’s People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) was supplied by the DynCorp, and other CIA euphemisms. It was ironic that while Northern Sudan was declared a terror state, the CIA was supporting rebels in a sovereign country–and a fellow member of the UN. It is pedagogicla to note that President George H.W. Bush cut off aid to Sudan in the middle of a colossal African famine.

According to press reports turnout in the referendum was well over the 60 % threshold for certifying the results and that the official tally exceeded 95 percent in favor of secession from Sudan. That leaves a rump Northern Sudan surrounded by a belligerent Ethiopia in the West, an enemy in the South and a former master in the North. There is more than commercial interests for many countries. The U.S.-backed Ugandan regime of Yoweri Museveni US client Kenya had continued to ship arms to the SPLA. President Bashir’s government in retaliation supported the Christian Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in northern Uganda. That cult has been spreading chaos and war in Southern Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic.. There is no doubt where the loyalties of South Africa, Uganda and Kenya lie. Both –have significant investments in the South. Along with Kenya, Uganda and Israel, the U.S. not only supported the Southern rebels, it also declared the country “state sponsors of terrorism” and sanctioned Khartoum.

The Sudanese capital Khartoum became a vocal opponent of U.S. policy in the Muslim world and built relations which China which has recently invested more than $8 billion in pipelines and infrastructure which allows Sudan’s oil flowing to Beijing. Sudan currently supplies 30 percent of the oil consumed by China.

In a post 2005 peace treaty, John Garang a Southerner was the Vice President of Sudan who against all odds favored the geographic unity of Sudan. He was murdered in  helicopter crash. Many blame Israel for the downed chopper.

The new country of Southern Sudan is ravaged by decades of civil war, where most people live on less than 75 cents a day, and nearly half are “food deprived,” according to the UN.

Omar Al-Bashir, Sudan’s president has promised to impose Shariah Law in the North, moving Sudan solidly to the right, and away from secular mediocrity. It is clear that while Israel has gained an ally in the South, it has lost friends in the North.

Most Southern Sudanese fear that Bashir would continue to support groups like the LRA and other militias in the disputed and oil-rich Abyei region on the border between North and South. According to the 2005 peace treaty the oil money would be split 50-50 between North and South. However there are many steps between the lip and the cup. About 80 percent of the Oil reserves lie in the South, but it is shipped through Northern Sudan’s Port Sudan. If Southern Sudan fails to manage its diverse groups, the same centrifugal forces that destroyed Sudan could envelop Southern Sudan. Southern Sudan is anything but monolithic. It is made of many different tribes, and South Sudan faces the same obstacles of unity that Khartoum faced. Some analysts think that a resumption of civil war is unlikely, however some believe that once South Sudan has secured new outlets for its oil, belligerency is inevitable.
