The wealthiest people, meaning those who control at least $30 million in assets, are a lot more prevalent in some cities. Here's where you'll find them.
The Occupy Wall Street movement has amplified Americans' growing concerns over the issues of social and economic inequality, greed and the influence of corporations on government and other social institutions.
The movement highlighted the divide between ultrarich and everyone else (the 99%).
So, who are the 1%, and where are they from?
The group is made up of doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, celebrities, athletes, farmers and even government workers.
Identifying where these high-earners live is made tricky by the fact that many have multiple residences. One source of information about ultra-high-net-worth individuals is Wealth-X, a company that tracks affluent individuals. It defines ultra-high-net-worth individuals as those who control assets -- including real estate, stock, art, cash and other investable possessions -- valued at $30 million or more.
Some cities are magnets for ultra-high-net-worth individuals. "Certain geographic clusters generate and attract wealth," said Wealth-X co-founder David Friedman. "A concentration of UHNW individuals is certainly indicative of an area's overall economic health."
