Union Pacific Freight Military Transport Aug. 1, 2012

This was a "hurry up and pull over" catch, and what a catch! A UP freight with CSX power moves through Denton, TX with a surprise cargo: military trucks and equipment! There were no visible marking, so one can't be sure if it is surplus equipment or stuff being moved from one base to another. Note the large gun near the end of the train. Makes you wonder what is in the containers!

Lets not forget the Hemit. That is used for everything.

I even got to load the Kalmar into the C-17's,tight fit. They weigh in at 117K LBS. Everything is big on those. I am heavy mobile A/C cert. and repaired the Drash units (large mobile A/C's for the troops and war rooms.  I think the 88's could drag Kuwait off the map. What a relief that would be. I am x navy and a lic pilot (civil/commercial).

Ok, and tyvm. I knew the V-12's had been [hased out but many still exist. Many are still in use in military tugboats today off Oman, but I didn't know the jet engines were put in the M-1's for real, (kinda thought that was Sci-Fi BS), but I shouldn't have doubted it. The Kalmar was still on the drawing board in my day, and the LMTV was a going concern just before. I do know that Cummins won the bid on the contract for all CCMovers, and figured they would just graduate to the C 500's and 550's. Take notice that the Cargo Movers do have AC, but none of the tanks do. Know why?

They are phasing out the operators, or are claiming to, and making it all remotely controlled. You will see much more in the way of hydraulics as the DoD contracts website clearly shows, since subbing out to the NSA for the hardware and software. Sneaking in all kinds of Black Book Ops if people would just read once in a while.

Thanks for the input sir.

Hell Nat., th 88 has 2 engine options. They are V-12's of the same nature. One was like 1200HP and the other was about 1700HP,something like that. The jet they used in the M-1 I thought was small, but the dam thing will do well over 60MPH across the desert. All that stuff was interesting. They bring it to us all tore up ,we make it like new gain. I liked the LMTV best.I worked on,drove and operated the Kalmar. It was a cargo container movier. It had a big Cummins,400HP and a hydraulic nitemare. All this stuff had A/C. Very important when the temps hit 140+ degrees .

That's Funny, Jim. I thought they had switched over to the Cummins C 550. God, they are even selling cheap goods at a mark up price that costs three times as much to run! Oh well, they get what the Taxpayer's pay for.

You right nat. To much over nothing really. these things are made in one place and shipped to another, has always been that way. As for the HET,just the cab alone with frag 7 armamnet weighs in at 10K LBS alone. The motor and trans weighs around 4,300LBS. The motor is a GMC,V-8 with 500HP of turbo,supercharged,2cycle diesel. With enough torque to stop the rotation of the earth.

I agree with your assessment Jim. The HET's are the heavy work horse and can easily carry two M-1's across Afghan and Iraq, etc. I did notice they were all primered for Desert environs. If anyone would ever check the DoD website for it's contracts, then they would already know that this load is bound for Egypt to help with it's border security. I wrote my first article on 12160 about this outrage.

Instead of freaking out about all these shipments...why not check out the DoD website under the Contracts Tab, and know just what kind of Govt. sells to Korea, China, Russia, Egypt, etc, etc.

First read the contracts. Second, get angry...get very angry, and actually speak out to all the idiots in Congress, Senate, Admin., and let them know we know. They are cockraoches and do nnot hide what they do, just figure you are too lazy to ever look! No one ever calls them out on it. Except me, but I feel alone in the wilderness....

The truck is called a HET,these things are very big. I changed motors and transmissions in them. Along with the M1000 trailer they carry the M-1Abrham tank all over.I also see some PLS,tow truck's,even a MWRAP,fuel trucks. As for the gun,it looks like a 155 howetzer, some tanks have this as well. It's areal kick ass gun. There are hundreds of these things and more in a desert not in the US. I can't say where do to national security.
