Food Storage 101

Ask yourself this question- In an emegency do you want to stand in a soup line?

Why Have Food Storage:
This has been the subject of my studies for about 20 or more years now, and just like yesterday it still fascinates me to no end.

I have a lovely family of 4 children all grown now, but when they were young I started out by trying to find ways to feed and care for them on a strict budget, because I had a frugal husband at the time.

However in time, what I learned is probably the most important information a person could have in a time of crisis. With my knowledge and the help of some very wise individuals who helped me understand the importance of storing, and completing a food storage plan, I got into storing a years supply of food for my family for security.

Throughout my years of reading and studying about different storeable foods I can help you plan the best food storage program for the best prices.

I have read many books on the subject, attended many a lectures all pertaining to food storage. I have come to learn exactly what's needed to know in order to begin. I have taught many classes on the subject and organized Family Preparedness fairs that were a huge success!

What I have found in most cases is that most people really do understand the importance of storing food, but they just don't know where to begin and/or are overwhelmed with the idea of where to start . There are some very hard and fast rules in storing foods, some of this information will save you a lot of time and money if followed correctly.

I will be breaking this down as simply as I can, teaching you ways to store food for you and your loved ones, as cost effective as possible.

I must stress to anyone interested in embarking on such a task to be open minded about this and not think it's just for them crazy Mormons, Mountain people or Militia's. Storing food is not paranoid, it's just smart!

The best way to think about it is like you do with insurance.

Do you have insurance?
So you pay your insurance, be it Home, Auto, or Health, you pay, yearly/weekly/bi weekly right? It's a high priority for the "JUST IN CASE scenario." But at the end of the year after paying you didn't die, get injured or have auto accident, but in the case something did happen to you, it was there for you right and I'm sure you were so glad you were covered weren't you?

Well food storage should be thought of in that same manner. It will be there for you when you need it and if you don't need it, unlike your insurance policy you can eat it all up and replace it when needed and if you do need it, then you and your loved one's don't starve to death in an emergency situation or disaster!

Nothing lost in my opinion, as you would have with a paid insurance policy. Food storage is security just like that insurance policy, it gives you peace of mind if the "JUST IN CASE!"

Most of us have been very fortunate with abundance, most of us have not had to look into our children's eyes and tell them "sorry, but there just isn't any food to eat!" Sorry would hardly be appropriate, I'm sure you would ever want to utter those words.

In the wake of 911 and the current economic crisis our wealthy nation is all of the sudden going through, we should use history to teach and educate us on reality. Reality is we do not know for certain that we will always have food, we will always have an abundance and we can always feed our family. People all over are losing job's and the future is uncertain to many of us, but it doesn't have to be now while we still have plenty.

During the great depression, food was money, food was a matter of life and death because there were no jobs, there was no money. Farmers can not grow their massive crops, infrastructure can come to a screeching halt in days and then what?

Storing food is economical sound and smart as a way to INSURE you and your families are taking care of no matter how dire the situation or current events are. And the most beautiful thing about it is, if you store foods you normally eat, and nothing does happens to upset your way of life, then you have lost nothing at all! Instead you probably saved yourself a ton of money in the long run, because in my 52 years of life, I have never seen any food prices go down, instead they have continually grown each and ever year.

In conclusion I can see nothing at fault in storing food it is simply the smartest and most sound investment you will ever make for you and your loved one's.

Who deleted my little haungy guy???? So much for humor -I guess.

Well I'm going to post 'im again... I like'im!

Anyway... Storing food is great... but what about the people around you??? are they storing food??? if not... why not???
If they are do they have a plan to hang on to it?

In the totality of things, we are going to get hit 6X20... the world that we have become accustomed to is going to be completely changed. A good sneak preview of what we have to look forward to you'll find just by doing a You Tube search for Haiti earthquake.

Also, check out this broadcast with Dr. Bill Deagle and Greg Evensen

So now that you know what's coming... what to do about it is next?

For me, I have mapped out an area of about 3 - 5 miles. I live in southern Oregon in Klamath County so I can drive/walk/ride a horse in any of the 4 directions and be almost in the middle of no where almost instantly. Population of the whole county is only about 60K but, Kingsly Field is here - that makes this area a high risk asset.

Unless you're willing to take the Bio-metric RFID

no one will be able to get food from relief efforts. Those who are opposed to all that is happening will be dissidents. We will pursued, captured and neutralized. That means, if you stay in one place for any length of time you will have to make a stand there; or surrender, or become a suicide stat.

Now, if all things which are occurring now are congruent with Biblical Text, that would mean we have about 6 years 11 months and about 8 days before the Season in which we can expect Messiah to return. Then we have 1000 years of peace, then Armageddon; then we're home free.

So how do we get through the next 6 Years, 11 months, and 8 days? Well............ for me I'm putting things away in several different places. All the while realizing that there are lots of edible stuff around me. Ammunition, fish hooks, and arrows have a longer shelf life then canned vegetables. So, storing enough to make the transition from DJ Performer to Citizen Soldier/Survivalist is all that I'm going to burden myself with.

No one will be able to stay in any one place for very long. My suggestion to everyone is have a plan with lots of contingencies. As an entrepreneur in Real Estate I learned "Location-location-Location" that rule is equally important in survival. Think well of your location, first; then begin storage strategy. another rule i learned in Real Estate is, Exit Strategy! Never engage unlesyou have a strong Exit Strategy. ( I wish I would have known that one three marriages ago)

Think well of where you are; where you want to be; and how to get out of it if it becomes necessary

Quinoa is great too, stores well, is cheap and contains more protein than any other grain. Quinoa's protein is of an unusually high quality. It's a complete protein, with an essential amino acid balance close to the ideal, similar to milk. Its protein is high in lysine, methionine and cystine. It also provides starch, sugars, oil (high in essential linoleic acid), fiber, minerals, and vitamins.

Not many people are familiar with Quinoa. It tastes great too.

Sprouted food can provide the essential nutrients we get from fresh vegetables...so don't throw those old jam jars away, they could come in handy. Follow the instructions, and there is little to go wrong. Sprouting also 'bulks-out' a supply of grains and seeds.

Food storage isn't any more critical than car insurance or homeowners insurance, at least that's my opinion.

You already know my opinion of food shortage in the US. That doesn't mean I don't have a large supply of stored food. I do. It's primarily canned food and rice and beans. We don't eat canned food because of the Bisphenol A lining the cans but would if we had to.

Like car and home owners insurance, both of which we have, no one plans on an accident, a fire or a robbery but insurance provides protection should they occur.

Please don't store food in plastic and please don't eat canned food unless you have to in desperation.
