NO CONTRACT - RETURN TO SENDER
By John Harris Dec 19 2009

Sometime ago I was talking to a friend in Milton Keynes who suggested to me that a process called NO CONTRACT- RETURN TO SENDER (NCRTS) could work regarding all paperwork sent through the post to us that we do not want to receive. I at that time was, as many are now, in the process of never ending letter typing, replying to this paperwork with notices of my own arguing the points of law and to be honest I have better things to do with my time. When Russ suggested this alternative it struck a chord with me for I am always looking for the simplest method to deal with any given situation. So about 10 months ago I started the process.

The first attempt was with a credit card company Capital One over a £200 demand they kept sending me. I had already sent them notices that did not seem to work, so started along the AFV route and sent them this twice. I then just started to return their mail with NCRTS across the address window. After a few months they just seemed to give up sending me paperwork and I have never heard another thing. To be honest I don’t know what method worked as I had no way of finding out and to be quite honest I didn’t care, it was just nice that they stopped writing to me. Around the same time I had the issue with the seatbelt down in Devon. Again I had sent the chief freemason, oops sorry the chief constable (thanks Jeremy) many notices again arguing the points of law, cancelling out at least three court appearances. I would not go to court as I did not want to accept their invitation to a place of business I had no interest in going to. They then informed me that they had found me guilty in my absence and the fine (contractual payment) had now risen from £30 to £250 and if I did not pay I would be imprisoned. I decided to use the NCRTS process and low and behold again I never heard another thing and to this day it remains the same.

After this I saw some merit in the process, as I could see that it must have worked as I am certainly not languishing in a prison cell, or should I say jail cell as prisons only seem to exist on ships. So I decided to try it again this time with Barclay card for a debt of around a £1000. I must let you know before I found this process works I had a lot of fun writing notices and receiving their responses, but to be honest though it gets boring after a while, but at the time it certainly was interesting. Every letter Barclay card sent me got sent back and again all I would do is NCRTS across the address window and send it back to them. After a few months the letters stopped with the accompanying phone calls and again I have never heard a thing from them.

Jack Straw faces Iraq inquiry grilling over Tony Blair letter --

Claims that PM was told UK should not assist in overthrow of Saddam

The former foreign secretary Jack Straw is to face potentially explosive questioning at the Iraq inquiry next month over a private letter he sent to Tony Blair on the eve of the invasion, urging the prime minister to look at options apart from pressing ahead with British military involvement in the attack. It is understood that the inquiry is to receive a copy of the personal letter sent by Straw, written after discussions with Sir Michael (now Lord) Jay, the Foreign Office permanent secretary, on 16 March 2003, two days before the Commons voted to back the war.

Queen to attend Cenotaph Remembrance service-The Queen will later lead the nation's tribute to those who have died and been wounded serving in the British Armed Forces. Her Majesty will join the Prime Minister, opposition leaders, Commonwealth High Commissioners and representatives from the Army, Navy and Air Force for the ceremony at the Cenotaph, on London's Whitehall.

Gordon Brown has expressed Britain's gratitude to the men and women serving in the armed forces, in a podcast posted on the No 10 website on the eve of the Remembrance Sunday commemorations.

The Prime Minister said that it was a "sacred duty" to honour the troops' courage and sacrifice, and that the thoughts of the nation would be with the troops serving in Afghanistan. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20091108/tuk-queen-to-attend-cenotaph-re... Pass me a bucket!!

Poll shows Brits see Afghan war as 'unwinnable'-A new poll has suggested that public support for the war in Afghanistan has fallen, with nearly two-thirds of Britons believing it is a lost cause.--Research carried out for the BBC1 Politics Show by ComRes found that two-fifths of people do not understand why UK troops are in the country.

Nearly two-thirds of those asked felt that the war was "unwinnable", up from 58 per cent in July.

Chief executive of ComRes Andrew Hawkins said: "Overall there is the sense that Afghanistan is becoming for Gordon Brown what Iraq became for Tony Blair: more than four in ten don't understand Britain's mission, support for the British presence there is ebbing away, and a majority have responded to the (Afghan) presidential election very negatively indeed."

The poll found that 63 per cent of those asked felt British troops should be withdrawn as soon as possible, and half believed that corruption in the recent Afghan election showed the war is not worth fighting. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20091108/tuk-poll-shows-brits-see-afghan...

Blame crisis on corporate greed: Rudd
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=876258
Rampant corporate greed caused the global financial crisis, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says.

Speaking at a function for the Brotherhood of St Laurence in Melbourne, exactly a year after he announced the first emergency measures to combat the local effects of the global meltdown, Mr Rudd blamed corporate executives for creating the worst economic downturn in 75 years.

"Tonight, around the world there are tens of millions of families who have lost their jobs, lost their businesses, lost their homes and lost hope because of a crisis which was not of their making," he said.

"Millions of working people around the world who, because of unrestrained and unregulated greed in financial markets, have been thrown out onto the streets.

"If you want a definition of social injustice, this was it in living, brutal colour - millions of innocent workers losing their jobs because a few thousand financial executives around the world surrendered any pretence of social responsibility in their blind pursuit of absolute greed."

Decisive action on the part of his government and those in other countries, including stimulus strategies, pulled the world economy back from the brink of collapse, Mr Rudd said.

"We were looking into the abyss of the total failure of the global financial system, the collapse of the global economy and the real possibility of a global depression of indefinite severity and duration," Mr Rudd said.

"One year later, as a result of the direct and decisive interventions by government, we have pulled back from the brink."

But despite those efforts, Mr Rudd warned that as many as 60 million people would lose their jobs in the developed world this year

Airport X-ray 'undresses' passengers-A human X-ray machine which produces "naked" images of passengers has been introduced at Manchester airport. It enables staff to instantly spot any hidden weapons or explosives.

The full body scanner which is being trialled will also show up any breast enlargements, false limbs, piercings, and a clear outline of passengers' private parts. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20091013/tuk-airport-x-ray-undresses-pas...
