Love the pemmican pdf! Thank you. Fills the bill of what I've been looking for. The link to the dehydrator info is not working--says it isn't there. I'm curious to see if what you've built is similar to mine. Or if mine can be improved upon.

Sorry, got the ratios wrong.

50/50 DRIED meat/rendered fat.

Meat's ~2/3rds water, so a pound dries out to about a third of a pound.

Anyone here tried Pemmican? Native American 'recipe' for storing meat.

Ingredients: dried meat, rendered fat

Take a pound of any cut of meat (not burger), cut into thin strips, and dry until crisp (they snap). An oven with the door ajar works OK, a dehydrator works, too.

Grind dry meat into a powder in blender or food processor.

Weigh out a pound of rendered fat. Rendered just means taking fat (usually cow fat) and heating it at low temperature until all the liquid fat comes out. That is what you want. A pound of it. It's solid at room temp.

Mix fat with meat powder.

-Stores w/o refrigeration for years

-is a complete nutrition, no other foods are necessary. Only a few foods on Earth can do that.

I've been eating it for about a month, off and on. It tastes great, it sounded very gross when I first read about it, but had to test it out. I've given it to other people, everyone has liked it. It's not what I expected...
