Darpa PetMan Military Robot.

Also known as Atlas proto. This video covers the life of 'PetMan'. PetMan is being developed by Boston Dynamics for DARPA.

This humanoid robot Walks, crawls, kneels, marches, running, jumping, climbs stairs and moves around obstacles.

Apparently designed for testing chemical suits, but it can perform various tasks dynamically, such as search and rescue operations in fire, nuclear and other hazardous conditions, without human exposure.

In April 2009, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) awarded a $26.3m contract to the Midwest Research Institute (MRI) towards the development of IPE and the PETMAN. (U.S company working for the U.S. defense.)

The bipedal robot weighs about 80kg (180lb) and is nearly six feet tall (1.75m). Petman is the fastest bipedal robot in the world. It uses hydraulic actuation and articulated legs with shock absorbers for operations. The unveiled prototype has an onboard computer, several sensors and other internal monitoring systems. Its functions are currently operated through controls on tether.

For the first time, a robot surgeon in Italy has carried out a long-distance heart operation by itself. "This operation has enabled us to cross a new frontier," said Carlo Pappone, who initiated and monitored the surgery on a PC in Boston, ANSA reported. Pappone is head of Arrhythmia and Cardiac Electrophysiology at Milan's San Raffaele University. The 50-minute surgery, which took place in a Milan hospital, was carried out on a 34-year-old patient suffering from atrial fibrillation. Dozens of heart specialists attending an international congress on arrhythmia in Boston also watched.
