I thought it might be worth starting a thread on David Harold Byrd.
Byrd was born in Detroit, Texas, on April 24, 1900. He studied geology at the University of Texas (1917-19) and during his holidays worked on an oil rig in Santa Anna.

I'm really glad to see that has been brought up. I think we all need to revisit the ideas of how the original polio vaccination of the late 50's was made on contaminated animal cell lines which have introduced the cancer-causing virus SV40 in to the human population (in addition to many other viruses.)
