Arkansas School District Arms Teachers Because Hiding and Locking the Doors "Is Not a Plan"

A Clarksville, Arkansas school district, backed by a little-known state law, has begun a rigorous training program so that members of the staff can carry concealed at school.

…more than 20 teachers, administrators and other school employees in this town … will carry concealed weapons throughout the school day, making use of a little-known Arkansas law that allows licensed, armed security guards on campus. After undergoing 53 hours of training, Dougan and other teachers at the school will be considered guards.(source)

Staff members will receive 53 hours of training that is geared towards responding to school shooter scenarios from Nighthawk Custom Training Academy, a private training facility in northwest Arkansas. “That teacher is going to respond to one thing and one thing alone, and that’s someone is in the building either actively or attempting to kill people,” explained Jon Hodoway, director of training for Nighthawk.

Teachers are not police officers, security guards or soldiers.  They teach children how to read and write and maybe do some math!  Giving them the go ahead to carry a sidearm at their job goes passed the 2nd Amendment.  Teaching is a system under contract with the local government.  Contract law supersedes the contracted persons constitutional rights while they are performing under said contract.  So theoretically if teachers wanted to be allowed to carry a firearm during their workday the teachers union would have to try and negotiate a new contract with the government to allow it.  As of right now I can pretty much bet that their current contract forbids having firearms on school premises.  That being said, where is the oversight going to come from when one of these hybrid cop/teachers kills somebody on school property?  Who's going to make damn sure it was self defense and not just a situation that got blown out of proportion?  Is it going to matter if the teacher is white and the student is black or vice-versa?  You can damn well bet all these ugly aspects are going to seep through the woodwork as soon as there is a person killed by a gun wielding teacher!  Tactical violence should not be a part of a teachers job description!

Here are some of the problems. Unions and govs.
Rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

But half trained civilians and unwilling participates, people without the so called instinct to react, are a danger to more people than an armed intruder. No one really knows their ability till one is put in a real situation, not a simulation. You can do all the drills required and pass and still not be response ready. I know this for a fact, it is within you or not simple as that.

Exactly!  If you want to be a boxer, you can train for it, spar with protective gear for it and master the speed bag for it but you won't know if you have become one until you've had your nose broken by some guy that really wants to take your head off in the next round and you're feeling the same thing towards him!

Unwilling?

about as dangerous as an uneducated teacher huh??

Which school would a killer choose, a school with armed security or an unarmed one? Certainly, not everyone is able to use a gun. A proper testing and training can be arranged to have the right persons armed.

I think just by simply doing away with gun free zones would have the same effect.  Statistically gun free zones have proven to be disastrous.
