Caesium-137 (137
55Cs, Cs-137) is a radioactiveisotope of caesium which is formed as a fission product by nuclear fission. It has a half-life of about 30.17 years, and decays by beta emission. It did not occur in nature before nuclear weapons testing began. Caesium-137 is water-soluble, and the biological behavior of caesium is similar to that of potassium and rubidium. After entering the body, caesium gets more or less uniformly distributed throughout the body, with higher concentration in muscle tissues and lower in bones. The biological half-life of caesium is rather short at about 70 days.  Experiments with dogs showed that a single dose of 3800 μCi/kg (approx. 44 μg/kg of caesium-137) is lethal within three weeks. Accidental ingestion of caesium-137 can be treated with Prussian blue, which binds to it chemically and then speeds its expulsion from the body.

What is the effect of Caesium-137 on health?

 

The health effect of radiation depends on its intensity, exposure time and the kind of body cells being affected. In case the Cs-137 involved is a very strong radioactive source, it may acute radiation sickness e.g. nausea, fatigue, vomiting and loss of hair, or even death if the radiation dose arising from direct exposure to it reaches about 1 sievert. Handling of such strong sources requires professional or properly trained personnel. Intake of Cs-137 to the body results in the radioactive material being accumulated in the muscle tissue, and may increase the risk of cancer.

The worst threat is caesium-137, Cs-137, which has a half-life of thirty years and is very bad news, mon amour. It is water-soluble. It mimics potassium and therefore gets into our metabolism through our food, including milk. There is a lot of it in our soil and food and bodies now, from the nuke tests of the 1950s and 60s by the US and Russia. It is especially harmful to children.  It travels with the wind and water currents. The posioned land around Chernobyl, the so-called zone of alienation in Ukraine, is soaked with Cs-137.

What  does  this  do  to  Pregnant  Women???  Are  the  next  generation  going  to  be  mutants???   This

really  worries  me  because  what  'WE'  do  today,  affects  the  next  generation!!!!   This  whole  issue

is  tearing  our  generation  (Baby  Boomers)  apart.  We  are  at  retiremnet  age  and  won't  live  long

enough  to  enjoy  it.  "Acid  rain"  has  been  around  for  decades.  I  got  rain  soaked  one  day  &  my  hair  would  not  blow  dry.  I  had  to  wash  it  and  then  blow  dry  it.  The  birds  are  drinking  it.  I live  in  the  Northern  part  of  Ontario.  You  people  seem  to  forget  that  Canada  is  caught  in  this  as  well.  Potentially  cancer - causing  radiation  from  Fukushima  has  been  encircling  The  World,  travelling  (as  you  say),  on  the  Jet  Streams  high  in  the  atmosphere  &  falling  with

precipitation  (rain  or  snow)!!!  Well,  somebody  -  do  Something  about  this  &  fast.  It  should

have  never  happened  in  the  first  place.  Fukushima  should  have  been  contained  in  a  "Bubble -

type"  Dome  -  like  they  do  for  suspected  Alien  crashes.  And  that  is  exactly  what  is  done!!

GOD  HELP  US  ALL....

Some of the best case studies on the affects of radiation on offspring were conducted in Japan after the bombings. We also had a lot of GI's exposed to radiation with nuclear testing during the cold war era. however, the government will not release much information about it.
