Booms in Baraboo: Authorities baffled at weird phenomena

Residents and police officers in the aptly named town of Baraboo, Wisconsin have reported hearing weird booming noises accompanied by bright flashes of light, paralleling the experiences of people in the town of Clintonville 130 miles to the north.

Authorities are baffled at the weird phenomena, and have ruled out lightning strikes or transformer blowouts as explanations for what people are witnessing.

“We don’t know if we have Clintonville going on here or what,” said Baraboo Police Chief Mark Schauf told the Baraboo News Republic.

Residents started reporting the booms in the early hours of Sunday morning at 1am, with posters on the town’s public service Facebook page also saying they heard the same thing, including strange bright flashes of light that preceded the booms.

A Baraboo police officer noted in his report, “I observed a large flash of light followed by a ‘boom,’” I advised dispatch of this information and my belief that it was possibly a transformer.”

However, when Sauk County Sheriff’s Department contacted Alliant Energy, the company confirmed there had been no power outages in the area.

45 minutes later, a deluge of reports then flooded in from residents across the city about a second flash followed by a huge boom.

Stormy weather was also ruled out as a potential explanation. “There doesn’t appear to have been any t-storms in that area Sunday morning,” said Ed Townsend, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Sullivan office. “I can’t think of anything else (weather-related) that would lead to a flash.”

Strange bright flashes of light were observed during the earthquake that devastated Fukushima last year in Japan.

Three separate Wisconsin towns have all now reported hearing strange booming noises over the course of the last few weeks. Residents of the town of Montello, 80 miles away from Clintonville and 42 miles north of Baraboo, also reported hearing the sounds last month.

Residents in Clintonville have been skeptical of claims that a “swarm of earthquakes” are responsible for the noises, noting Wisconsin’s lack of previous seismic activity and the fact that the booms were first reported before the USGS said the earthquakes began.

Debate has raged over a number of alternative explanations, including CO2 sequestration storage, which has been documented to cause “small to moderate earthquakes,” improper disposal of wastewater from a natural gas fracking operation (also documented to cause earthquakes), or more exotic explanations such as the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) or secret underground military tunneling.

KRYPKE, since we first started hearing about it, we don't seem to be any closer to finding an answer (beyond speculation) for this mysterious anomaly. You have been following these stories more than I, what do you think is causing it?

Based on the research stemming from your original posting back in January of this year, "What are they? Mysterious unexplained noises now being reported ac... and what's going on in Wisconsin I have a few theories -- entirely speculative of course.

However, I believe there are a few interesting facts worth considering:

1- Majority of these booming noises in Wisconsin occur at night.

2- The official explanation that a 1.5 magnitude earthquake caused this is utterly ridiculous. The booms began occurring 24hrs before the earthquake registered, and the sounds have persisted and spread to other towns.

3- 2012 kicked off with a bunch of hype surrounding the strange noises worldwide. Many have since been confirmed to be hoaxes, but some, like the rumblings in the UK and Costa Rica were covered by local media and to date remain a mystery. (And that's just the tip of the iceberg with that)

4- When the Wisconsin story first broke, USGS stated that there was no seismic activity in the area that could have been responsible. Days later they retracted and went with the 1.5 quake theory, and a subsequent swarm of mini-quakes.

5- The booms in Wisconsin originated in a town called Clintonville, with a majority of them being reported on or near Clinton Ave. -- I thought that was a bit weird -- what are the chances of that...

If they are tunneling underground building secret bunkers it doesn't make sense that they would be doing it underneath three towns in Wisconsin -- totally counter intuitive. Why Wisconsin? It doesn't even make sense from a National Security perspective. Why would they build anything underground so blatantly? So blatant in fact, that it get's national media exposure. Then, they not only continue doing what they are doing underground despite nationwide media coverage, but they expand it to two other places in Wisconsin?

It doesn't make sense. Seems to me whatever they are doing, they want us to KNOW they are doing it. I look at the cause and effect relationship. We do not know the cause, however, the effect is observable. The effect on the town, the media coverage, the fear generated from this unknown occurrence -- I believe, echos, in some way, the cause that is producing these effects.

With all the 2012 hype, and the fear mongering in the beginning of the year with sounds worldwide, I feel like this is an extension of that. And like I said when this first started (look back through the discussions) and I've said it more than once, I don't think it's over with.

Unless this is natural, but nothing like this occurs naturally that we can compare this phenomenon to, thus the mystery of it. It's all so strange.

My conclusion is, if this is not some freak natural occurrence that we have yet to identify, then who ever is making these sounds, has every intention of us hearing them and has every intention of this story gaining national media coverage.

We are meant to hear these mysteries booms. The question is why...

As for this story, well, I used to see flashes of light followed by a boom every other Tuesday at 3:00 PM which were

weapons testing at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant in Tennessee. Check for close by military installations, or possibly
