A film badge is developed like a photograph after your time of exposure ends to determine yo dose. So its only used once. A dosimeter isn't film, its metal treated to react to the dose you receive and can be reset for reuse.

As said by Christopher-Peter, you also need a radiation detector so you can get out fast then check the dosimeter to see how fried you are.

I call mainstream media "the propaganda media" because that is what it is. The only two reasons the propaganda media broadcasts any "news" is to have something to overlay the propaganda on and to give people a semblance of something to watch so that they absorb the propaganda.

I live about 16 miles from a Nuclear Plant in Pgh. It's the Oldest or first built in this Country I believe. They offer FREE Iodine Tablets but only IF you live WITHIN a 10 Mile Radius (I'm just over the line by 6 miles so I bought my own). The 'shut down the Plant" about a week before "GRIDII" reporting a 'small fire'. That of course gave me some concern. Is it "UP" yet? I don't know. Fear-porn abounds today with Janet N. telling the Country to 'watch out for a coming Cyber Attack soon" and FOX News showing about 1/3 of the Sun gone and 'coming Earth's way' at 2 million mph. Don't cha just love it!

I've seen Dose-Meters used in all of the Fukushima Videos along with Badges.

Yikes!

For: Ken Marchlenski - while a dosimeter (dose-meter) can be beneficial; it tell you the amount of radiation that you have received, because you typically would keep it on you at all times, along with a "film badge".

What is more beneficial, is to have a radiation detector (Rad-tad) - something that tells you that there is radiation present, so you can get the hell out of dodge - you can then check your dosimeter to see how much you got.

All it takes is for a 'listener' to drive over 'downwind' with a handheld 'Dosimeter' and check. I have one ($250 not cheap) but it makes one independent of those that lie for a living. Buy one or share one and the cost of one with neighbors if necessary.
