Last day for Guard in New Orleans

Today marks the last day of the Louisiana National Guard's deployment in New Orleans.



Thousands of Guard members were deployed shortly after Hurricane Katrina to aid in the immediate aftermath of the 2005 storm. Many of them were later reassigned back to the city to supplement the depleted ranks of the New Orleans Police Department.

Mouse Study Suggests ADHD Drug Might Be Addictive

Ritalin, a drug commonly used to treat children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), caused changes in the brain cells of mice similar to those seen with cocaine, a new study shows.



The researchers, from The Rockefeller University in New York City, said the findings suggest that chronic exposure to Ritalin in high doses could prove addictive, and highlight the need for more research into its long-term effects.

US Supreme Court says passenger can be frisked

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court ruled Monday that police officers have leeway to frisk a passenger in a car stopped for a traffic violation even if nothing indicates the passenger has committed a crime or is about to do so.
