Undercover agent in al-Qaeda bomb plot 'was British'
The device did not contain metal making it difficult to detect even in a rigorous airport security checkThe man who foiled a Yemen-based al-Qaeda "underwear bomb" plot is reported to have been a British man of Middle Eastern origin, according to US media.
UK officials declined to comment on the reports, but earlier this week the US said foreign agencies were involved in the operation.
The agent was sent by al-Qaeda to attack a US-bound plane, but left Yemen and gave the device to US intelligence.
The US insists the bomb never posed a threat to the public.
Western passport-holders have long been seen as prime targets for militant groups seeking to plan attacks.
However, as well as reporting that the secret agent was a British citizen, NBC News in the US also says UK intelligence agencies were "heavily involved" in his recruitment.

I saw the 'Vendetta' movie. It was either a promo film for English gay living and S&M, or an anti-revolution film. Maybe both. Out of the same 2/$5.00 display case I got a movie about a huge shark that jumps up in the air to 30,000 feet and brings down a 747 in its jaws. I figure the special effects cost about $23.79. I think the producer of this drek is the same guy behind the underwear bombers' saga. Scare the people but don't waste a penny. The Rothschilds are beginning to grumble and it doesn't look good.
