Courts Rule US Government Above the Law

Manhattan Federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein has declined to hold the CIA in contempt for destroying videos that it had been ordered by the courts to preserve.

The case revolves around 92 videos, depicting hundreds of hours of interrogations of detainees. The tapes allegedly contained evidence of torture, and the CIA was ordered by numerous courts to produce the videos in relation to lawsuits arising from torture allegations. The 9/11 Commission also demanded that the tapes be produced. Instead, the agency destroyed them.
Although the Obama Justice Department had already decided last year that no criminal charges would be filed for this blatant obstruction of justice, Judge Hellerstein’s recent ruling insures that the agency will not even face civil sanctions or so much as a contempt order for willfully breaking the law.
In his ruling, Judge Hellerstein, the very judge who had ordered the CIA to produce the tapes in September of 2004, notes that the agency had instead provided a description of what they say was on the tapes and “implemented new protocols” to insure that they don’t destroy evidence again, so there is no need to hold them accountable in any way.
Judge Hellerstein’s decision is not without precedent.

Not really to surprising at all. Not only is the cia, fbi, and all other gov agencies above the laws that we the people have to obey, they dont face the repercussions that ordinary people do,like being put in prison .It als goes down to the state and local justice systems where police, judges, and the rest of the like are above the law.

At some point or another, we're going to have to start pulling guns.

And even if it wasn't "above the law", with "laws" that allow this:

it hardly matters, doesn't it? Under current "law", the defendant is not allowed to know what he is charged wit, his attorney doesn't know what his client is charged with and might not even be able to enter court because he doesn't have the required "security" clearance, and the judges keeping their rulings secret, the above is hardly an issue any more in these days of "Star Chambers"....And remember "Pre-crime"/"Minority Report" thingy is already here (and the murder of  Awlaki by Nobel laureate Obama's death squad was just the latest example of it)

The program is called “Narrative Networks.” By understanding how stories have shaped your mind, the Pentagon hopes to sniff out who has fallen prey to dangerous ideas, a neuroscience researcher involved in the project tells Danger Room. With this knowledge, the military can also target groups vulnerable to terrorists’ recruiting tactics with its own counter-messaging.
