LP;  Was it hot?  Not trying to be an ass.  August is generally a hot month, but here in the Northwest it doesn't get hot like south Texas.  So it depends on where you are.  Also, calves are more sensitive to temperatures and have weaker immune systems than adult cattle.

We had ten calfs back in August 1971 grazing in the pasture. We found them dead without any apparent reason.

I was in a rural area a few years back where an entire herd of cattle passed away almost over night and at first blamed on lead poison from a near by gun club but it turned out be from some freak food being trialed called beets and all they made dine on it died shortly after. sadly. Other cattle still eating swedes near by on other farms did not die suddenly or at all.

I was on a farm in the Midwest and the cattle withstood extreme hot and cold temperatures every year.  This was not heat.

I grew up on a farm in Arizona, the hot part. We always had some cattle, horses, pigs, chickens etc etc. No way all those healthy cattle died at once from just “heat”. That’s more MSM Bovine Scatology. No pun intended. In June 1990 we had a hell week, high temperatures for the week starting Monday 118, 117, 119, 120, 122 degrees, there was no die off! Animals were stressed, but I can’t remember anyone talking about a die off.
