Gillette Stands Behind Ad Featuring Plus-Size Model After Widespread Outrage
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WISH) - An ad for Gillette's Venus razor featuring a plus-size model is sparking outrage.
It shows 33-year-old Anna O'Brien frolicking in the ocean, with the inspiring message: "Go out there and slay the day."
But not everyone is happy.
"Imagine how many razors she goes through," one person wrote on social media.
"Wow! This is so unhealthy," was another message.
"Please stop. Being unhealthy is not a good thing," said another person on social media.
The Instagram star with more than 300,000 followers spoke out to "Good Morning America" Thursday about the backlash.
"For a lot of people, all they can see is fat. They don't see the joy. They don't see the happiness," O'Brien said. "At the end of the day, bodies are bodies. There are so many different types of them.
"This is all that this is about."
Gillette is standing behind the controversial ad, saying "all types of beautiful skin deserve to be shown."
