Living on the SE Coast of US, I've been through (too) many close calls with hurricanes over the years.  The very best site I've found for info before, during, & after a storm hits is storm2k.org.  Active, retired, student METS and others provide excellent info. Their links directly to Katia info are:

Katia became the second named hurricane of the season in the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday, but forecasters said it was too soon to determine where it might head.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami cautioned the public — still recovering along parts of the East Coast from Irene — not to stress over the storm. It is over warm waters and in a low wind shear environment, two ingredients that could propel it to become a major hurricane, likely by the weekend. But it's too soon to tell if it will ever come near land.

I did watch Jim Bastardi of Accuweather last night on Faux News with Bill O'Reiley.  He did say that the east coast needed to watch the tropical development in the Atlantic  that Katia was still was a way to the Caribbean and there was time to see what might happen.    I lived in south Florida when Hurricane Andrew basically came out of nowhere.
