ACTA would establish a new international legal framework that countries can join on a voluntary basis and would create its own governing body outside existing international institutions such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) or the United Nations. Negotiating countries have described it as a response "to the increase in global trade of counterfeit goods and pirated copyright protected works." The scope of ACTA includes counterfeit goods, generic medicines and copyright infringement on the Internet.
A signing ceremony was held on 1 October 2011 in Tokyo, with the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Korea signing the treaty.
As webmaster who uses constant copyright content...I just index it, however I do credit the rightful owners, it still concerns me somewhat. 99% of the internet is copyrighted material. To me it's all about the right to exchange information. Knowledge is key and in my opinion this may be just another way to censor the public.
I agree. This an abuse of Treaty powers of the Congress, especially since I never heard a word about it. It amounts to fleecing everyone, everywhere for anything. Makes the RIAA look tame.
Also, forgot the link to verify and learn more about this insanity.
Also, Search Wikipedia as it seems there is a whole page dedicated to the ACTA.
Another surreptitious framework negotiated behind the general public's back. I ask the good people to stop this madness at all cost. We can't take this lying down. If passed, this treaty can drastically effect a majority of our lives! Good looking Freedomrox!
Good looking is slang for thank you. I had no intention of commenting on your pulchritude or your countenance, the matter I am concerned with, is this treaty. So, with that said, does anybody have a plausible or pragmatic solution...or does pragmatics not play a factor in regards to this cause?
Justin: I am afraid our hands are tied, Literaly!!!
There is nothing we can do but protest AGAIN...
My sentiments exactly!
