A voluntary compact is a group of, or an agreement among, two or more people, entered into of the free will of those whom it binds. Force, fraud, deceit or any kind of coercion are incompatible with and antithetical to voluntary action. No contract or agreement entered into under threat, duress or coercion can be binding, and no contract can be binding on anyone who has not explicitly agreed to be bound by it. Therefore any rule or legislation which is deemed to be binding on any person who does not explicitly consent to be bound by it must be illegitimate, and such pseudo contracts, be they legislation or any other kind of would-be law should not be tolerated among civilized people.

This should not be construed to mean that there is no place for law; on the contrary, law is the the most primitive and ever-present governor of human relationships, and it exists wherever two or more people coexist. Civilized people love law, and tend to institute customs that hold adherents to standards of behavior which rise well above the requirements of natural law, and legislation. A violation of such customs, however, should not, and usually does not result in any retaliatory action, against the one who fails to adhere, any worse than admonishment or the loss of social privileges.

The violation of natural law, however, is much more serious. Since any time natural law is violated there is a suffering victim, retaliatory action against the violator should be server and should not fail to be administered. The initiation or threatening of violence against a person or legitimately owned property of another, specifically, any unsolicited actions of others that physically affect an individual’s property or person, no matter if the result of those actions is damaging, beneficial, or neutral to the owner, are considered violent or aggressive when they are against the owner’s free will.

This initiation of force includes, but is not limited to battery, assault, theft, fraud, kidnapping, murder, rape and so on. This is a statement of the Non-Aggression principle. In order for a society to adhere to the Non-Aggression principal, and so, be in compliance with natural law, the only law that can be enforced is natural law.

This would require that those bound by any legislation which goes beyond the requirements of natural law freely agree to be bound by it, explicitly and without coercion.
