Cause of Autism
While researching the book The Slow Poisoning of America, John Erb discovered a connection between the the food additive Monosodium Glutamate and the abnormal development of the brain.
Having had over a decade of experience working with people with Autism he was always fascinated by their above average intelligence in certain areas. Since glutamate is a primary amino acid involved in brain growth, Mr. Erb published the theory that Autism is being caused by intake of high amounts of Monosodium Glutamate. Later he found that Glutamate is an ingredient in over a dozen vaccines, possibly creating the occurrence of Autism several months after what had been a normal infant development.
In the five years since publishing his theory, John Erb has expanded upon his research and gathered more evidence to support it.
Mr. Erb's research report of 2006 titled The Slow Poisoning of Mankind: The Toxic effects of MSG, included several studies to validate his theory that MSG is linked to Autism. One study referred to in the Report proved that excess glutamate triggers proliferation and differentiation of brain cells.
The recent Autism Genome Project of 2007 reported that the genes that shared a similarity in individuals with Autism were involved in Glutamate Transport.
In an effort to bring this to the attention of the public, John Erb contacted a variety of government and private agencies.
In December of 2006 he was invited to give testimony before the Canadian Senate Committee on Autism where he presented his theory of the food and vaccine additive MSG triggering the Autism epidemic.

In November of 2007 the Interagency Autism Committee on Autism convened in Washington D.C. The session was opened with a speech from the Secretary of Health Michael Leavitt, and was closed with a final speech from John Erb.

In May of 2008 John Erb appeared again before the Autism Committee, this time with the aid of Carol Hornlein, food scientist and founder of www.msgtruth.com.

John Erb believes that the Petition he has filed with the FDA demanding the removal of Glutamate containing additives from the food supply of the United States. He believes that once this happens, and it is also removed from vaccines, we will see a reduction in new cases of Autism across the country.
