On July 23, a gunman allegedly opened fire at the Grand Theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, killing two and injuring six—the gunman is reportedly dead as well.

UPDATE: 12:46 am EST — The Lafayette Grand Theatre is a gun-free zone, according to the “Code of Conduct” listed on the movie theater chain’s website:
The “possession of firearms or weapons of any kind” are completely banned and the ban applies regardless of whether the firearm or weapon is carried “openly or concealed, with or without a permit.”

UPDATE: 11:16 pm EST — CNN reported the gunman used a handgun, and police know the gunman’s identity but are not releasing it to protect the “integrity” of the investigation.
They report that the gunman was a 58-year-old white male and they do not have a motive.

UPDATE: 11 pm EST — The Daily Advertiser confirms number of dead has risen to three. The reported number of injured has risen to seven “with injuries ranging from critical to non-life threatening.”
Governor Bobby Jindal (R) commented on the attack, saying: “The best thing anybody can do right now is to think about them, pray for them, shower them with your love is the most important thing we will get through this. We will get through this. We are a resilient community. This is an awful night for Lafayette. This is an awful night for Louisiana. This is an awful night for the United States.”

Police report the shooting was limited to one of the movie theater rooms in the building.
The Daily Advertiser tweeted that “[Lafayette] City Marshal Brian Pope has confirmed that the shooter is dead. Six were injured.” The Advertiser’s Seth Dickerson tweeted that one person is confirmed dead in addition to the shooter.
The gunman allegedly opened fire around 7 pm.
According to Reuters, one witness, Katie Domingue, described the gunman as an “older white man who stood up in the theater and began shooting.” Domingue said the gunman did not say a word and that she “didn’t hear anybody screaming either.”
The attack allegedly took place during the movie Trainwreck.
