A Chicago Police officer today apparently defended his decision to handcuff a nurse who had refused to draw blood from a suspected drunken driver involved in a fatal accident until the driver was admitted to the hospital.

Information Clearing House" -- - A landmark ruling in a recent Kansas Supreme Court case may have given millions of distressed homeowners the legal wedge they need to avoid foreclosure. In Landmark National Bank v. Kesler, 2009 Kan. LEXIS 834, the Kansas Supreme Court held that a nominee company called MERS has no right or standing to bring an action for…

With guns drawn and flashlights cutting through darkened rooms, Polk County undercover drug investigators stormed the home of convicted drug dealer Michael Difalco near Lakeland in March. As investigators searched the home for drugs, some drug task force members found other ways to occupy their time. Within 20 minutes of entering Difalco's house, some of the investigators found a Wii video…

In its ever-evolving re-branding campaign, Blackwater has created a new alter-ego for part of the company’s business. Meet the "Personal Security Awareness" program, which appears to be an off-shoot of Erik Prince's Greystone, Ltd., a classic mercenary operation registered offshore in Barbados. On its website, which was registered on February 20, 2009 and went live recently, the "program" is described as "a multi-phase course which is designed to assist Non-Government Organizations, Faith Based…

TEHRAN - Pakistan’s former chief of army staff, General Mirza Aslam Beg (ret.), has said the U.S. private security company Blackwater was directly involved in the assassinations of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto and former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.
Blackwater later changed its name and is now known as Xe.
General Beg recently told the Saudi Arabian daily Al Watan that former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf had given Blackwater the…

A new report from Adalah shows how the courts and police attempted to stamp out opposition to Operation Cast Lead "This is a time of war, and every incident harms the people's morale."
This was not a sentence in a right-wing journal, but rather a statement by an Israel Police representative during Operation Cast Lead seeking to persuade the Tel Aviv District Court to block anti-war protesters from the city.
Around the same…

After championing habeas corpus rights for Guantanamo detainees during his election campaign, Obama seems like a hypocrite for having different rules apply at Bagram. –Photo by AFP
US President Barack Obama dominated headlines last week for tossing out George W. Bush’s plans for a missile defence shield in Eastern Europe.
The praise with which that decision was met globally will probably help mask the…

Despite some progress, congressional investigators on Monday cast doubt on whether efforts by American International Group Inc. to restructure its operations and pay back the government will ever prove successful.
Still, the company's shares jumped about 15 percent after the head of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said that panel will examine a plan to reduce the AIG bailout package.
In the biggest taxpayer-funded bailout of a single company, the…

Let's face it: most Americans live in a world of false security. This is somewhat understandable, given the fact that the majority of the U.S. population was born after 1945. Few remember the dangers and hardships of World War II; fewer still remember the Great Depression. Few Americans know what it's like to not have some sort of "supercenter" nearby with shelves stocked with every kind of food imaginable, twenty-four hours a day. Few know what life was like before there were restaurants of… Continue

There’s nothing new about the US health insurance industry attacking Canadian Medicare. Back in the eighties, Burson Marsteller, PR front for the US industry, worked from its Toronto offices to publicly undermine the confidence of Canadians in their treasured Medicare program – a program which, according to the US industry, was “the largest unopened oyster in Canada”.
Now, two decades later, as President Obama seeks to bring a universal single-payer system to the United States, the…

Imagine that, the Fed who is supposedly
semi-private a government entity voted not to open its books even for Geithner. It would be a whitewash anyways but...wow not even Geithner. It says further down that the Fed is trying to keep a low profile right now. Hmmm I wonder why that would be. Shouldn't it be standing tall showing that it made the right choices and stands by those choices? Maybe the Fed board members are a little worried about what damage Ron Paul's bill may…

Just to let everyone know. Unlike what it may seem if you listen to the news, if someone gets the N1H1 flu you will not necessarily die. I have a friend that was diagnosed with the N1H1 flu about a week ago. She is in her mid 20s and in average health. She was feeling pretty bad, so she went to the hospital and was surprised to find out she had the dreaded evil and 120% fatal flu. Well she went home stayed inside, took care of herself and instead of dying she was fine within 4 days. I am fairly…
